Background The Pew Research Center conducted surveys pertaining to relationships and how relationships are affected by the Internet in 2005 and a similar follow-up survey in 2013. A portion of the surveys focused on online dating. Guidelines When performing hypothesis tests, always state your null and alternative hypotheses. Clearly identify which type of test you are using and speak to any assumptions you are making. Use a 0.05 significance level throughout. Be sure to write a thorough conclusion stating not only your generic conclusion regarding the null and alternative hypotheses, but also the meaning of this decision in context. About the Data You will need to download the relationships.csv dataset. This is a selection of the data from the 2013 survey, which includes the responses from 2,252 people age 18 and over. You will find five columns of data in the file. The data was collected during telephone interviews conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International from April 17 to May 19, 2013. Interviews were conducted in English and Spanish by landline (1,125) and cell phone (1,127). At least seven attempts were made to complete an interview at a sampled telephone number. The calls were staggered over times of day and days of the week to maximize the chances of contacting a potential respondent. For the landline sample, interviewers asked to speak with the youngest adult male or female currently at home based on a random rotation. If no male/female was available, interviewers asked to speak with the youngest adult of the other gender. For the cellular sample, interviews were conducted with the person who answered the phone. · age—the age of the interviewee, where 97 = 97 or older, 98 = don't know, and 99 = refused to answer. · gender—the gender of the interviewee, where 1 = male, 2 = female. · onlineDating—response to the question: "Have YOU, personally, ever used an online dating site?", where 1 = yes, 2 = no, 8 = don't know, 9 = refused to answer. If blank, assume the question did not apply to the interviewee. · metOnline—response to the question: "Is your [spouse / current partner] someone you first met ONLINE or someone you first met OFFLINE?", where 1 = met online, 2 = met offline, 8 = don't know, 9 = refused to answer. If blank, assume the question did not apply to the interviewee. · desperate—response to the question: "Do you agree or disagree with this statement: People who use online dating sites are desperate", where 1 = agree, 2 = disagree, 8 = don't know, 9 = refused to answer. · goodWay—response to the question: "Do you agree or disagree with this statement: Online dating is a good way to meet people", where 1 = agree, 2 = disagree, 8 = don't know, 9 = refused to answer. · In 2005, the mean age of people who reported having used an online dating site was 46 years old. Was the mean age of people who had used an online dating site different in 2013 than it was in 2005? 1. State the null and alternative hypotheses. 2. Do you use t-test or z-test? Explain the rationale of your choice. 3. Perform your test using computer software. 4. State your conclusion regarding the null and alternative hypotheses. 5. What is your conclusion in the context of the problem? In 2005, 2.6% of people who were married or in a serious relationship said they met online. Has this proportion increased in recent years? 1. State the null and alternative hypotheses. 2. What type of test you perform to test the hypothesis you wrote in no.1. 3. Perform your test using computer software. 4. State your conclusion regarding the null and alternative hypotheses. 5. What is your conclusion in the context of the problem? In 2005, 29.5% of people agreed with the statement "People who use online dating are desperate." Was this proportion different in 2013? 1. State the null and alternative hypotheses. 2. What type of test you perform to test the hypothesis you wrote in no.1. 3. Perform your test using computer software. 4. State your conclusion regarding the null and alternative hypotheses. 5. What is your conclusion in the context of the problem? Based on the 2013 survey, is the mean age of those who agreed with the statement "People who use online dating are desperate" different from those who disagreed? 1. State the null and alternative hypotheses. 2. Do you use t-test or z-test? Explain the rationale of your choice. 3. Perform your test using computer software. 4. State your conclusion regarding the null and alternative hypotheses. 5. What is your conclusion in the context of the problem? Based on the 2013 survey, do young people (age 18–29) tend to agree more with the statement "Online dating is a good way to meet people" than people who are over 29? 1. State the null and alternative hypotheses. 2. What type of test you perform to test the hypothesis you wrote in no.1. 3. Perform your test using computer software. 4. State your conclusion regarding the null and alternative hypotheses. 5. What is your conclusion in the context of the problem? Write a paragraph that weaves together your findings (and any additional tests or estimates you may wish to make) in a meaningful way. age, gender, onlineDating, metOnline, desperate, goodWay 77,2,2,2,2,1 38,2,2,2,2,2 51,1,2,2,2,1 88,1, , ,8,9 62,2,2,2,1,2 48,2,2,2,1,2 77,1,2,2,2,1 67,1,2,2,2,2 48,2,2,2,1,2 59,2,2,2,2,1 79,1, , ,1,2 65,2,2,2,2,2 87,2, , ,8,1 28,2,2, ,1,2 56,2,2,2,2,2 83,2,2, ,1,1 50,2,2,2,2,1 90,1, ,2,2,1 50,2,2, ,8,2 56,1, ,2,2,2 64,2,2, ,2,2 18,2,1, ,2,2 67,2, ,2,2,1 71,2, , ,8,9 30,1, ,2,1,1 99,2,2,2,2,1 66,2,2,2,1,2 67,2,2,2,2,1 58,2,2,2,2,1 75,1,2,2,2,2 80,2, ,2,2,1 84,1,2, ,2,8 73,1,2,2,2,1 67,1,2,2,2,1 50,2,2,2,2,1 54,1,2,2,2,9 84,1, , ,8,2 47,1,2,2,2,1 29,2,2,2,1,1 51,2,2,2,2,2 72,2,2,2,2,1 87,2, , ,2,1 77,2, , ,2,2 76,2,2,2,2,2 45,2,2,2,2,8 60,2,2,2,2,1 92,2, ,2,1,2 67,2,2, ,1,1 74,1,2,2,8,8 74,1,1,1,2,1 62,1,2,2,2,2 70,1,1,2,2,1 52,1,2,2,2,2 59,1,2,2,2,1 60,2,2,2,2,8 68,1, , ,2,1 70,1,2,2,1,2 62,1,2, ,2,2 53,2,2,2,2,1 64,2,2,2,1,2 67,2,2,2,2,1 86,2,2, ,2,1 99,1,2,2,2,9 45,2,2,2,2,1 47,2,2,2,2,2 32,1,2,2,2,1 34,2,2,2,2,1 27,1,2, ,2,8 65,2,2, ,2,2 21,2,2, ,2,2 68,2,2, ,9,2 42,2,2,2,8,2 59,1,2,2,8,8 62,1, ,2,8,2 22,1, ,2,2,1 81,2, ,2,2,8 49,2, ,2,2,2 80,1,2,9,2,8 20,1,2, ,2,1 38,1,2,2,1,2 60,1, , ,2,2 59,1,2,2,2,8 68,2,2,2,1,2 83,2,2, ,1,2 60,1,2,2,2,1 97,1,2,2,2,8 32,2,2,2,1,1 78,1,2,2,1,2 50,2,2,2,2,2 72,2, ,2,2,2 77,2,2,2,2,8 54,2,2, ,1,2 99,1,2,2,8,9 32,2,2, ,2,8 57,1,1,2,2,1 20,2,2, ,1,2 70,2,2,2,9,2 48,1,2,2,1,2 96,2, , ,1,1 36,2,2,2,2,1 74,2,2, ,1,2 51,1,2,2,2,2 64,2,2,2,1,2 60,2,2, ,2,2 35,1,2, ,8,1 88,2,2, ,1,2 87,2, , ,2,1 51,2,9, ,2,1 70,2,2,2,2,1 34,2,1,2,2,1 53,1, , ,2,1 58,1,2,2,2,2 45,1,2,2,8,2 47,2,2,2,2,2 82,2,2, ,2,1 50,1,2,9,9,1 66,1, ,2,2,1 81,1, , ,8,1 64,2, , ,1,1 74,2, ,2,9,2 49,1,2,2,2,1 61,2,2, ,2,2 83,1,2,2,2,1 65,2,2,2,1,2 82,1, , ,2,1 62,1,2,2,2,2 61,1, , ,2,2 35,1,2,2,2,1 43,2,2, ,1,2 57,2,2, ,1,1 54,2,2,2,2,1 65,1,2, ,2,1 57,2,2,2,2,1 60,1,1, ,2,1 48,2, ,2,2,1 87,2, , ,2,1 58,1,2,2,2,1 56,2,2,2,2,2 44,2,2,2,2,2 20,2,2, ,2,2 55,2,2,2,2,2 26,1,2, ,9,1 77,1,2, ,2,1 38,2,2,2,2,1 91,2, , ,8,8 40,1,2,1,2,2 80,2, ,2,2,1 62,1, ,2,2,1 41,2,2,2,8,2 66,2,2,2,2,2 54,2,2,2,2,1 51,2,2,2,2,1 48,2,2,2,2,2 35,1,2,2,2,1 65,2, , ,9

Q1.
1.
Ans:
Null Hypothesis: The average age of the people who did online dating in 2013 is 46 years
Alternative Hypothesis: The average age of the people who di
d online dating in 2013 is not 46 years
2.
Ans:
Here we use Z test because the sample size is greater than 30.
3.
Ans:
The output of the test as follows
one-sample z-Test
data: age
z = 14.445, p-value < 2.2e-16
alternative hypothesis: true mean is not equal to 46
95 percent confidence interval:
51.29951 52.96337
sample estimates:
mean of x
52.13144
4.
Ans:
Here the p value is less that significance level so we reject the null hypothesis.
5.
Ans:
The average age of the people who used dating in 2013 is not equal to 46.
Q2.
1.
Ans:
Null Hypothesis: The proportion of people meet online that are married or in relationship is less than 2.6%.
Alternative Hypothesis: The proportion of people meet online that are married or in relationship is greater than 2.6%.
2.
Ans: Here we use one sample proportion test.
3.
Ans:
The test results are follows
1-sample proportions test with continuity correction
data: 63 out of 2252, null probability 0.026
X-squared = 0.27331, df = 1, p-value = 0.3006
alternative hypothesis: true p is greater than 0.026
95 percent confidence interval:
0.02260145 1.00000000
sample estimates:
p
0.02797513
4.
Ans: The p value above is greater than significance level that is 0.05 so we accept the null hypothesis.
5.
Ans:
The proportion of people meet online that are married or in relationship is less than 2.6%. That is the proportion is decreased recent times.
Q3.
