Background reading and audit framework: this task will involve the use of an audit tool developed by the UK National Health Service. Although the tool was developed more than 15 years ago, it is still regarded as the standard in systematically describing health inequalities within/between regions. Two readings are included: (1) Making the Case: Health Equity Audit, a brief summary of the tool and the audit process; and (2) Health Equity Audit Made Simple: A Briefing for Primary Care Trusts and Local Strategic Partnerships, a more extensive document that provides examples of audits performed in England. For this simulation, the audit for Assessment task 1 is the equivalent of stage 2 of the NHS audit process. Assessment task 2 will approximate stages 3 and 4 of the NHS audit.
