Executive Summary
Sydney Local Health District is providing excellent services to their patients and serving
the society. They are focusing on improving their overall services and in achieving excellence.
The forward-looking strategies are well developed and designed by the SLHD that provides their
strategic planning and action for the near future. The strategy of every spectrum has mentioned
beginning from patients, consumers, staff, community, services, education, research, and
organization. The main strategic gap that is found in the SLHD mental health is that it was
providing an outline about every idea of the hospital and there was no strategic map as for how
they will execute the plan to achieve the success. The strategy should contain details about the
physical environmental condition that is not provided by SLHD which is a main strategic gap.
There is no clear description about the interrelationship that is present between the
various strategies and the consumer participation. As per the open system theory will result in
forming an organization that will have both formal and informal organization, the pattern and
behaviors, the roles and responsibilities and the overall physical environmental condition. SLHD
should focus on eliminating the overall restrictions that are present in the system. In case of
mental healthcare services, it is essential for the hospital to provide more independence to the
physician and to the consumers that is patient care providers in deciding the suitable care for
their patient. Leadership and empowering the consumers and physicians are essential for the
SLHD to fill the strategic gap. Open system theory, theory of constraints, theory of contingency
and theory Z is primarily used for justifying the recommendations to overcome the strategic gap.

Introduction
Sydney Local Health District is providing excellent services to their patients and serving
the society. They are focusing on improving their overall services and in achieving excellence.
They made more analysis about the growing changes in the environment and changes in the
demand (Ginter, Duncan and Swayne, 2013). They focus on enhancing the overall services by
incorporating people, vision, employees, community, services, education, research and
organization as a whole in the strategy formation. The forward-looking strategies are well
developed and designed by the SLHD that provides their strategic planning and action for the
near future. The strategy of every spectrum has mentioned beginning from patients, consumers,
staff, community, services, education, research and organization (Health Catalyst, 2014).
Providing strategy for every segment makes them a clear strategy that addresses various
areas of the hospital. There is a requirement for the hospital to indicate as for how these
strategies will pave the way for them in an organized manner to accomplish their target. The
paper mainly focuses on the strategic gap that is present in the mental health care services and
focuses on providing a suitable recommendation to overcome these strategic gaps. The paper
initially focuses on the existing strategic gap and then proposes a suitable recommendation to
overcome them and justifies using various organization theory so that SLHD can improve their
overall services provides.
Strategic Gap In SLHD
The main strategic gap that is found in the SLHD mental health is that it was providing
an outline about every idea of the hospital and there was no strategic map as for how they will
execute the plan to achieve the success. The strategy should contain details about the physical
environmental condition that is not provided by SLHD which is a main strategic gap. There is no

clear description about the interrelationship that is present between the various strategies and the
consumer participation (JB Pub, n.d.). The major strategic gap in the plan is a lack of definition
about the interdependency and decision-making process. There should have been definition
about the safety and the care that would be provided by the mental health care department which
was missing and is a major strategic gap.
It did not through light on as how there will be coordination among various departments
in executing the program. Consumer participation is essential for the mental health care services
as they will make use of various researches conducted in the university on the patients. There is
overall definition about various approach and goals of the hospital. The hospital should indicate
the consumer participation level that how they will be in line with various strategies of the
hospital to provide the treatment. In this case, the hospital did not provide an indication about
what are the departments will be involved along with the mental health care because there are
more cases where another department participation is essential to address the patient
requirement.
There is no indication about the level of consumer participation that is it is critical to
consumer to participate from the time of discussion and planning about the health care services
to be provided to the respective patient which is not indicated. Besides the implementation of
research on providing services, there is no indication about the plan as for...
