Unhealthy Eating Habits and Exercise 4 UNHEALTHY EATING HABITS AND EXERCISE Tamiya Anderson PSY/420 5/9/22 Bill Hasler Table of Contents Introduction3 Discussion3 Conclusion4 References6 Introduction Since unhealthy eating habits and physical exercise are often linked, I will focus on bad eating habits and the lack of physical activity. Despite well-informed warnings, the majority of individuals disregard all risks and continue to indulge in very hazardous eating patterns. This has been shown to be a primary cause of death in many cases. Individual’s beliefs lead to poor decision-making, and the behaviors that follow have severe repercussions. Discussion Upon studying the criteria for the task, I noticed that I was engaging in one of the harmful habits listed. I did not do any physical activity. I was not inspired to work out or eat healthy food, and every time I became ready to continue, I would have a depressed episode. Cigarettes, not training, and eating an unhealthy diet are examples of poor health-related behavior that harms people physically and emotionally. My parents would continually urge me to go for a stroll across our neighborhood or sprint on the treadmills, and I would always make up excuses because I could not as well as would not even have to work out. I could not see why I required to exercise since I felt my physique and wellbeing were perfect and that I was not prone to any ailments. Risk perception is the belief that people have about their vulnerability. A human's perception of the risk's severity would be skewed. For instance, despite knowing that a sedentary lifestyle might lead to certain disorders, I decided to stay insufficiently active since I did not think I was at danger. Consider a young person whose riches enable him to consume whatever he chooses, whenever he desires, but who comes from a family where demand outstrips supply and frequent food are sometimes not assured. As a result of his upbringing, he had observed sickness and starvation. In line with the Health Belief Model (HBM), which holds that a user's actions and beliefs are suggestive of a want to either prevent or treat a sickness which is already present, his views are since a food shortage, or insufficient nourishment, is the issue and the source of ailment (Powell et al., 2016). His fears are that unless he could now acquire this cuisine, eat lots of it will help him escape the ailments he saw as a teenage boy. As a byproduct, he might well be eating so much more than he requires, perhaps leading to weight gain problems later in life of his poor diet. The PMT is made up of five elements that influence behavior intentions: intensity, vulnerability, reaction efficiency, self-efficacy, and dread (Leow et al., 2018). When used to lack of physical activity, the PMT predicted the following: Anxiety grew as I learned much more about involvement of sadness, anxiety, and hypertension in lack of physical activity, heightening my awareness of how dangerous lack of physical activity is. And reinforced my assumption that I would continue to experience depressed episodes or develop hypertension and suffer a heart attack. I showed high intentions of altering my behavior once I felt certain that I could enhance my psychological health (consciousness) and this adjustment would have positive repercussions (reaction efficiency). Conclusion Behavior is associated with health and sickness, and behavior may be predicted using behavioral models based on a person's perceptions. Physical inactivity may contribute to a variety of health issues, and psychology can help us understand why people behave the way they act. In so many situations, however, individuals do release their fears and begin daily exercise as a way to prevent the adverse effects of their food intake. It is also in line with the HBM's aspects of maintaining good health or avoiding it later. References Leow, S., Jackson, B., Alderson, J. A., Guelfi, K. J., & Dimmock, J. A. (2018).
