Stratification, as my loved ones and I understand it, is the way of dividing a society's population into distinct classes based on demographic characteristics such as income, wealth, race, ethnicity, education, gender, and class.

People who have jobs that don't pay very well might not be able to afford the fundamental essentials like food, clothes, and a roof over their heads because of how much they cost.
