How you tell the story of who you are (right now) is even more so. For this essay you will write a story of you – not the one that always has been or will be in the future, but the one you want to see and know and share right now. You can focus on personality, affective behavior, actual experience, values, and more. You are writing to an audience that needs to consider the unique thing you have to share – the story they couldn’t hear from anyone else. The tricky part is that any assertions about yourself must be explained and examples must be given. We will work on this assignment at length. You will learn to write this essay as we go by engaging with the materials and assignments, so no freaking out. Just get busy considering who you are right now and why you believe this is important. Eng – 101 10/10/21 Draft 1 I am ambitious. I am driven to do my utmost best. I never let myself off the hook. I am determined to show other people what I am made of and a little obsessed with status and the trappings of success. I am persistent. I may not be the most brilliant or most talented individual, but when I lack talent, I work hard. Hard work always wins. That's why I am where I am. I never give up. I am realistic, clear-eyed, perceptive, down-to-earth, and worldly-wise. I am grounded and sometimes focus on the negatives rather than the possible. I am practical. I'm not interested in worldly things; instead, I'm focused in making the real world a better place. I am clever and intuitive about how things function, and rather than reading, writing, watching, or listening to it, I like to be engaged and do it. I'm a really disciplined person. I am capable of making compromises and controlling my desires. I am impenetrable. Love, trust, safety, honesty, responsibility, dependability, consistency, decency, fairness, sincerity and commitment, resourcefulness, charity, intelligence, comprehension, knowledge, good judgment, discipline, experience, personal growth, discretion and intuition, independence, achievement, happiness, tranquillity, perseverance, respect. I also have a big kid in me. I like to play baseball, and I like to play PlayStation games. I like doing outdoor work like mowing the lawn, blowing leaves, cutting trees, snow blowing, etc. I like to read every day and stay updated with current events. I like candies/cookies/drinks/cocktails and want them instantly. I can handle anything life throws my way with stoicism and self-belief. I get stuff done. I like always to look good because presenting a put-together, expensive, and well-styled front to the world is important. I can sometimes unintentionally compromise those whom I step over on the journey to reach my goals. I occasionally fail to consider the feelings of others in favor of operating as efficiently as possible. I hold myself to high standards and expect no less from my peers. In addition to finding it challenging to be mindful of other people's feelings, I also struggle to express my feelings. My self-discipline extends to my personal and emotional interactions. Structures that repeat themselves and are consistent are appealing to me. To my friends and family members, I am exceedingly devoted and dependable. I am a trustworthy person that will never break a promise, and I expect the same in return. I like people with the same high-minded values and who are reaching toward similar life goals. In the city of New York, I was born a man. I attended preschool, elementary school, high school, and now community college, all of which were public schools. I used to think I could get away with anything. When I was a youngster in elementary school, I used to try to play pranks on my classmates and teachers, and I was a nuisance at home. I used to be obsessed with video games, sports, and being outside as a kid. With my friends, I enjoyed playing baseball. I had a good time hanging out with my friends. My buddies and I used to frequent pubs, clubs, the beach, swimming pools, and vacation in foreign places. I was a teen parent when I had my children. To help support my family, I got a job at an early age. As the years passed, I began to take on more responsibilities, limiting my time for video games, sports, and socializing. Like many other men my age, I spend quality time at home. Spending time with my children, nieces, nephews, siblings, and parents is one of my favorite things to do. Mechanical Engineer is my professional title. My professional employment takes up a lot of my time. I take my job very seriously and work hard to achieve the best results possible. Mechanical engineering is a good-paying career, not just a job. I believe that my coworkers take their jobs seriously as well. After more than two decades, I've decided to return to school to advance my career. Many of my peers have also returned to school to further their careers after a long absence. When I was growing up in the 1980s, technology was not advanced. People communicating with you (or even acknowledging that you exist!) was undoubtedly a lot higher in the 80s. When you walked past someone, they used to say "hi" or engage in a bit of discussion. You'd see a pile of kids' bikes outside someone's house if you looked out the window. We knew almost everyone in the area. When I was a kid, neighboring kids played together, riding bikes, and so on. Indeed, we'd eventually end up at someone's house, where we'd leave our bikes in a mess outside. Back in the day, the roads were undoubtedly calmer and hence safer. I've seen in recent years that just getting out onto the main road takes an eternity, contending with a seemingly endless conveyor stream of traffic. In addition, I've noticed that the quality of driving has degraded. People are driving faster and are becoming increasingly irritable. Driving is a terrifying experience for me and dealing with the hostility on the roads these days requires steel nerves. Petroleum was quite economical. Another reason driving was a more joyful experience was because gasoline was less expensive. Fuel seemed to take up a lower percentage of your paycheck when compared to the money you were earning. I'm not the only one that thinks this way. In the '80s, glass bottles were used for everything. Glass bottles were better for the environment; they also made the drinks tasted better. Now, milk has the flavor of the plastic container it comes in, and who knows what chemicals are pouring into it. Technology, on the other hand, progressed, bringing social media with it. Since I spend most of my time at work, driving to work (because New York City traffic is insane) and spending time with my family. With my friends, social media has replaced the outdoors. I could connect with my friends and see what they were up to using social media. I now use PlayStation to play video games with actual people, including my friends, online. I've become involved with the technology world. For work and school, I bought a laptop, a PlayStation for recreation, and a cell phone for communication.
