At the other end of the scale were ‘casual’ supporters: those who went to an average of five or fewer games per season. For these, loyalty was not an issue they had considered. They viewed Coventry City as an entertainment option, not a lifestyle, and were, therefore, not subject to any pressure to attend from peers. Compared with committed fans, they tended to be more critical of the value for money they were getting. Casual supporters explained that they typically made decisions on the match day or maybe only decided to attend the game a day or two before, perhaps after driving past the ground accidentally during the week. Appendix 5 gives some more details on ‘casual’ fans’ attitudes.
