Yanyi Zhu AAD 251 David Bretz Fall 2011 Finial Reflective Paper 06/12/2011 Class reflection At the beginning of fall term, my goal of this class is refresh my way of look into different kinds of arts. Even though I still need to improve my literacy skills, there are a lot of different ways which I can reflect different styles of arts and change my eyes to react the real objects in the world. Now I am really interested in visual literacy because visual literacy is covering everywhere, Television, computer screens, signs, symbols, books and magazines etc. Most things in our daily lives can use different ways of literacy to respond. That is the biggest thing that I have learned in this class. In addition, online group discussion is a challenge for me because the members in my group can only use email to exchange our opinions, assignments and documents. It is a big different with face to face talking because we cannot get each other’s’ opinion as soon as possible, so sometimes we need to guess what the members think about. Also, English is not my first language, so there are a little bit difficult to explain my mind in a mail. In short, my members and I conquer most of the difficulty and finish our assignment very well. In my experience, the most useful things I learn in this class are visual literacy skills and online communication. The course book which name is “Interpreting Art” is the best way to enhance my ability to communicate visually because this book helps us response based on wonder and reflection. For example, in the chapter 5, the author says “For art that is old, we can seek understanding of what the art meant to the people who made it and viewed it in its own time. The understanding requires knowledge that scholars of history make available to us in book, in lectures, and on wall texts in museum” (Barrett. P.137).
