At the age of 13, Stanley “Tookie” Williams co-founded the infamous Crips gang. Subsequently, he was convicted of several robberies and murders and sentenced to death. While in prison, he spoke out against the gang lifestyle, wrote children’s books, donated proceeds to community programs, and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Ultimately, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger determined that his rehabilitation was not relevant and refused to grant clemency. Thus Williams was executed on December 13, 2005. Debate whether the governor made the right decision in this case.
