Assingment 1.1 Strategic Planning in Health Care
Strategic planning refers to a process of a defining the strategy or making decisions and
uses the resources of company to attain the desired goals. To achieve the future direction of all
the organizations it is necessary to understand the current position and also the possible avenues
by which the organizations can achieve the particular course of action. The main focus of making
strategic plans are to understand what do we do, for whom do we do it and How do we excel in
it. The main components of strategic planning understand of the vision, missions, values and also
the strategies of the organization.
Visions are the one that helps the organizations understand how the work has to be done,
how it can be done, and how to operate it. It is a long term view and
concentrates on the future
role only. For example a nonprofit health care organization can have a vision statement which
says a it can be said as Save the world from dying. Missions are the one that defines all the
fundamental purposes for an organization telling why it exists and what all activities are carried
to achieve their vision. For example a charitable organization may have a mission statement as
providing jobs for the people who are homeless and needy. Value drives an organizational
culture and growth and also the organizational culture which provide a framework for the
decisions are made. Strategies help to define the art of general a combination of all the ends in
which the firm is determined and also the policies by the means the organizations are getting
there. Strategies are like the roadmaps which are chosen by the organization and have to follow
in that direction only. The most important part of selecting a strategy is to make sure that it is
going in a right direction (Inamdar, 2003).
Strategy planning is very necessary for all the health care organizations because the
health care system is complex, confusing and very difficult to understand. They have multiple
functions to perform and they cannot makees any mistake in their functions as it’s the question of
health of people (Reed, 2013). The health care industry sees rapid changes in the external
environment which produces chaos among people. Here is when the strategy planning comes
into use as it contributes to the hospital missions and values for the future as well. In addition to
the key changes and trends in the external environment there can be internal as well as external
benefits which the hospital can see are clarity amongst the chaos, operating the vision not only
the circumstances, motivation of employee and their engagement, organizational teamwork and
transformational leadership and accountability as well. On the other hand strategic management
is known as the comprehensive collection of all the ongoing activities and processes of an
organization that are needed to coordinate and also see the resources and actions which are
inclined with the mission, vision and also the strategy throughout an organization. Strategic
management can help to perform the static plan into the system which provides the strategic
feedback to the decision making and also enables the plan to develop and the requirements and
other circumstances which are necessary for the change. Strategic planning focuses on the focus
on today and also the extrapolation of the future whereas strategic management deals with the
ideal and also work backwards.
