Assignment

You are assigned a

Brachioradialis muscle

to work on. From here, you will need to create a patient that requires strengthening of that assigned muscle. You will need to create,

i) at least,

three (3)

different exercises for the assigned muscle that reflect the characteristics listed. You are to imagine teaching your patient the exercises you have created.

ii) Create a

video

demonstrating/teaching

one

of your chosen exercises.

iii) Create a

home exercise sheet

for the patient using Physiotools

iv) Document your imagined interaction in a

SOAP note

.

Part 1: Summary

1. For your exercise, invent a patient, and choose a ‘condition’ that would result in a need for strengthening. Your patient must state that he or she is not experiencing any pain – you are only addressing the

muscle weakness

.

2. Complete the summary page identifying the joint(s) associated with the muscle, synergists, antagonists and what type of exercise each task represents.

Part 2: Exercise

3. You have been assigned a muscle. It is your job to develop exercises for the muscle you have been assigned. You must choose, at least, three (3) different exercises that can be done to challenge the muscle you are assigned as follows:

a) Isometric work

b) Concentric work

c) Eccentric work

*If one exercise can accomplish more than one type of muscle work, be clear about that in your summary.

You are still required to submit 3 exercises.

4. Use the Physiotools online resource to develop your exercises for a patient. For each exercise include

“custom”

instructions about

correct posture, execution of the exercise and parameters (ie mode, duration, frequency, intensity)

to augment or clarify the instructions provided.

Do NOT submit the directions associated with Physiotools. You MUST add your own text. All exercises can be on the same page.

Part 3: Video of You Demonstrating/Teaching ONE of the chosen Exercises

6. Take a video demonstrating and explaining ONE of the chosen exercises above. Take a video with your phone.

Part 4: Documentation (SOAP note)

7. Document your intervention for your exercises using SOAP notes. Print the documentation pages below. Complete them

IN HANDWRITING

fill in the name of the PTA (you), the Patient (make it up), with their date of birth. HANDWRITE your SOAP documentation for your exercise in the blank lined pages below. Remember to imagine yourself teaching these tasks to the patient.

Please make to arrange, and write your SOAP Note just like the SOAP NOTE BELOW.
