Introduction
In the modern era, carrying out business activities and operations is not an easy task, and there are wide ranges of factors which need to be taken into consideration during the same. For instance, companies are required to operate with suitable culture and structure to carry out a smooth flow of all operations and activities in the long-run (Goetsch & Davis, 2014). In addition to this, businesses are also required to take of employee training and development as it contributes to enhancing the overall effectiveness and performance of the staff members. The present study is based on Nando’s Restaurant which is located in Brisbane, and at present, the business is focusing on strengthening its customer base in the best and every possible manner.
Section 1
Founded in the year 1987, Nando’s is a chain of restaurant outlet located in different countries of the world. It can be expressed that at present Nando’s Brisbane is offering a variety of products and services to its customers and its product range includes fast foods, Burgers, BBQ chicken at affordable and convenient prices. The selected business enterprise is operating in the food and restaurant industry of Australia which is growing at a very good pace. Increasing demand and income level of consumers are the major forces which are driving the fast food and restaurant industry of the country.
On the other side of this, increasing competition and growing concern linked with health and well being has emerged as the biggest threat to the businesses operating in the fast food and restaurant industry of Australia (Rosemann & vom Brocke, 2015). Many businesses including Nando’s have now introduced wide ranges of premium and healthier choices for the customers because of changing trend in the marketplace. The organizational chart for Nando’s Restaurant Brisbane is provided below as:
(
Owner of Nando’s Resturant
Kitchen and staff
Operational manager and staff
Restaurant manager and customer service staff
Shift manager and supervisors
Floor supervision and cleaning staff
)
The above-mentioned chart outlines the fact at present; there are different departments developed by Nando’s and the objective behind developing different departments is carry out a smooth flow of all operations and activities in the long-run. I am currently working as a shift manager, and I am required to report to the owner of Nando’s. Furthermore, I am also responsible for making sure that high quality, fast and satisfactory food and services are delivered to the customers.
In simpler terms, organisational culture is defined as the set of values and beliefs which influences the overall action and behaviour of people working in an organisation. Considering the case of Nando’s Restaurant, it can be expressed that the business has employed clan culture within the workplace (Jeston, 2014).
According to the concept of clan culture, a high degree of collaboration is encouraged and promoted within different departments and people working in the organisation. Furthermore, the staff members are taking active participation and involvement in the entire process of decision making and strategy formulation of the selected organisation because of its clan culture. The culture employed by Nando’s Restaurant is effective because it encourages teamwork and appropriate communication. It can also be expressed that the teamwork and adequate communication within Nando’s are playing a critical role in delivering high quality and satisfactory food and services to the customers (Adekola & Sergi, 2016).
According to the Edgar Schein (1988) theory, organizational culture has been defined as the pattern of common assumptions, values and beliefs which directs and influences the behavior of people in a business enterprise. The theory further explains that the culture of an organization is divided into three major parts which are assumptions, espoused values and artefacts and symbols (Hogan & Coote, 2014). The selected theory also outlines the fact that in order to carry out desired and expected changes within an organization, management must emphasize encouraging the views and opinions of the employees.
At present, democratic style of leadership is employed by the organisation, and according to this style, the leaders at Nando’s encourages the employees or staff members to present their suggestions, views and opinions in areas such as strategy formulation and decision-making. The benefit of using the democratic style of leadership within the selected restaurant is that it has resulted in creating a high degree of satisfaction among the staff members by encouraging and considering their views and opinions (Reiche et al. 2016).
In addition to this, the leadership style employed by Nando’s has also encouraged the employees to give their best towards the accomplishment of organisational goals and objectives. On the contrary of this, it can be critically argued that the main and most important drawback associated with the use of democratic style of leadership is that it results in creating delay in the entire process of decision-making as leaders are required to consider the views and...
