Assignment Objectives On completing this assignment, you will:  o Develop critical thinking skills, through identifying, analysing, evaluating various forms of scholarly articles and developing arguments which illustrate thoughtful appreciation of how to explain the need for a project charter and a client side project manager, and o Know how to search and locate literature (e.g. Journal articles, books, trade articles etc.) using library and internet resources, and  o Analyse information found in the business case and the literature and synthesise the new knowledge into a written management brief.

Assignment Brief Your consulting company (team) has been contracted to develop the project management plan (PMP) for the project resulting from your nominated business case and you have been appointed as the clientside project manager.  The project sponsor is an experienced senior executive manager who is familiar with large projects and understands why a client-side project manager is required.  You are in the process of drafting the project charter on behalf of the project sponsor when the project sponsor says that he wants you to prepare a management report for the senior leadership team’s next meeting.  The senior leadership team have expressed some concerns about having a project charter and a client-side project manager.  They are bureaucrats and are not familiar with project management.

“Write a management report of around 3500 words explaining in reference to the nominated business case: (a) what is a project charter, what value it brings to a project, and why it is important to the success of the project,  (b) the business rationale for conducting stakeholder analysis and how it impacts project communications, and (c) the origins of project governance and the relationship between project governance and project change management.”
