Assignment Name: Unit 5 Individual Project Deliverable Length: 4–6 pages Details:
Some criminal justice students have questioned the need to learn about criminological theory because it is not related to the real world, or at least the field of criminal justice. The policies and theories are not listed in any particular order, and any policy could be related to any of the theories on the list. You may also use other polices not listed, as long as you relate these policies to the ideas found in the theories column. As you answer each question, you must provide support or evidence that will enhance and empirically prove your answers. Introduction
Theories of criminology have been used to introduce and improve some already existing
policies. For example prison Rehabilitation Programs, Diversion Programs and Death penalty. The specific theories include Labeling Theory, Windows Theory and social Control Theory (Decker & Barlow, 2009).
Labeling theory has greatly influenced Prison Rehabilitation Programs. This is because of the labels given to new prisoners once they are convicted. That name last throughout their prison life. This makes it hard for the prisoners to be rehabilitated since they adopt an attitude similar to their labels. A prisoner is also given a label in the community after serving an imprisonment; this further reduces their chances of being fully rehabilitated.
Recently, the death penalty has been criticized and has been abolished in most countries. The social control theory was a basis for the establishment of the death penalty and countries that have not abolished it continue to use the theory to defend their position. There are arguments that capital offenses are antisocial. Thus, the death penalty should be used to deter people from such antisocial behavior.
Diversion Programs also known as Drug Courts are largely influenced by the Windows Theory. This is because there is a need to prevent Drug abuse and trafficking just like the arguments of the Windows Theory that is commonly known as the Broken Windows theory (Siegel, 2012).

Prison Rehabilitation Programs have been established in prisons to ensure that prisons are fully rehabilitated by the time they finish serving their jail term. This program is established under the Ministry of justice of the United States of America (Andresen, 2006).
The rehabilitation programs include adult programs, educational training, counseling, vocational trainings and working environment orientation. The labeling Theory has largely influenced the naming of these programs and attitudes that prisoners are attached to them.
The Adult Rehabilitation Program is a considerable drive in rehabilitation activities at the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (CDCR) just like in any other correction Facility. The objectives of this department are to avail efficient evidence based programming to adult offenders. The program also aims...
