HEALTHY BEINGS
MENTAL HEALTH
Subject of IRP
The topic revolves around the issue mental health which is a relatable aspect to the forensic mental health services. Forensic science is something that mainly deals with the crime related issues which provides a great help in solving cases which was somewhat impossible earlier. Forensic mental health services take into consideration the mental health issues faced by the patients
who are related to criminal activities or can commit any such crimes. Forensic psychology is somewhat related to forensic mental health which includes people who have a history of criminal or is thinking about attempting any sort of crime which can be related to harming himself or any other person due to any reason personal or professional .
The common instance includes someone trying to jump off a terrace or a person who is always harsh to the persons around him and giving threats like killing them. This topic is often ignored and the suffering person is even bullied for this behavior but people must know that this is something which should not be taken for granted and needs a proper medication and required proper medical counseling for further well-being of the sufferer and their family.

Research question
Why is mental health a bigger issue at present and what are the basic experiences of the nursing staffs in forensic mental health setting?
3
Hypothesis
Mental health issue is in itself one of the most prominent issues that is faced and channelized in the present time as with the increased focus on the mental health issues the issue got much more recognition from all over the world. Moving ahead the experiences of the nursing staffs in the mental health services would not be considered as good or satisfactory. As in the research and by getting the insights from several nurses and the practitioners it could be said that for them management was very difficult in the meanwhile as mental health patients are quite resistive to handle.
Literature review
About the topic
The existing literature focuses on several aspects about the topic.
The most important aspect discussed in the literature implies that the nurses handling these forensic mental health patients are often in a considerable tension, as these type of patients are quiet uncommon to their experiences and living in an environment where the patient is threatening every staff every second is a tedious task and requires great amount of attention by the helping staffs.
This type of patient should never be left alone so it’s a 24 *7 job for every helping staff.
Shortages of Medical Staffs
Moving a head the literature focuses on the fact that there is a scheduled shortage of nursing staffs in forensic mental health services.
The nurses working in a forensic mental health services are quite often inexperienced and are never exposed to this type of surrounding, so it becomes a tough task for them to work in this type of environment.
Due to this these types of health care services often experience shortage of nursing staffs and other helping staffs.
Covid Impact
Another aspect discussed in the literature is the mental health condition of the patients residing in the prisons.
Due to covid -19 many of the services provided to the prisoners were restricted for their well-being but it gave a negative result as they were restricted of proper counseling and also the number of helping staffs was dropped significantly leading them to more critical conditions due to connection loss with the doctors and the nurses.
These types of patients are required to be provided with a proper mental support which was not fulfilled during covid situations.
Coordination between Staffs and Patients
Another aspect discussed in the literature is that there should be a proper coordination between the mental health patients and the nursing staffs working for them.
As they are away from their families so the nursing staffs are just next to their family and this is their responsibility to support them mentally and make their instinct ions strong so that they would not attempt them in future.
For the nurses to be working in forensic medical health care forums they should be properly trained and qualified so that a better handling of the...
