This movie describes how two young reporters from the Washington Post broke and pursued the story of the Watergate scandal (1972 - 1975).




The Insider

Introduction to the Chosen Movie ‘Spotlight’
On January 6, 2002, the subscribers of Boston Globe chose their local paper and witnessed a headline: “church allowed abuse by priest for years.” The writer of the story of the movie, Spotlight (2015), was Michael Rezendes who was a reporter of the spotlight team employed for investigation.
The uproar from those stories was so much sustained all over that by December of the year 2002, there was a step-down incident of Cardinal Bernard Law, the archbishop belonging to Boston. He issued a statement in which he asked forgiveness as well as apologized for his shortcomings and mistakes. The ‘Spotlight’ team was awarded with the Pulitzer Prize in the year 2003.
Main Idea of ‘Spotlight’
The main idea of the movie ‘Spotlight’ is the story of the investigation of the incident. It is a great story based on a newspaper headline. It belongs to the old school model and calls for obvious comparisons with movies such as “All the President’s Men”. It can also be compared with the movie, Zodiac. Both the movies have a similar kind of devotion to the part of newspaper reporting (Venegas). The truth shown in the edition as well as the description of evil contained in it can be a permanent wound in the hearts of millions but still it needs revelation.
Plot of ‘Spotlight’
The movie ‘Spotlight’ opens with a set of prologues in a police station situated in Boston in 1976, which shows a distraught mother expressing charges about sexual molestation against a priest named Father John Geoghan. The police officers are told not to discuss or disclose about the incident. The main course of action began as early as in 2001 with the Boston Globe getting a new editor in chief by the name Marty Baron (Venator).
