Introduction
Monash Council is dedicated to helping its residents enjoy healthy, fulfilling lives. The Public Health and Wellbeing Act mandates that every four years, the Council must create a Municipa
l Public Health and Wellbeing Plan to set the community's health and wellbeing priorities. The Council's several departments that assist us in defining what makes a healthy city are brought together in the Monash Health and Wellbeing Plan 2021–2025. To maximise the health, happiness, and happiness of the Monash community, it lays forth strategic health and wellness priorities (MHWP, 2022).
Cardinia Shire is located 50 kilometres south-east of Melbourne and has a land area of 1,280 square kilometres. One of the fastest-growing municipalities in Victoria, with a projected population of 80,709. The Shire is one of the eight "interface councils" that border Melbourne proper and serve as a transition zone between the city and the suburbs (Alindogan, Ristevski & Robinson,2017). The urban development corridor of Beaconsfield, Officer, and Pakenham are all located within Cardinia Shire, which is home to 27 settlements in total. With a total of 28,919 homes, the Shire is expanding at a rate of five per day. By 2023, it's anticipated that more than 129,000 people will call the Shire their home. Couple families with children and single-person houses make up the bulk of the Shire's population. It's safe to conclude that the elderly make up a significant portion of lone-person households, given that 10.7 per cent of the population is 65 or older (MHWP, 2022).
The Monash Council is dedicated to helping its citizens live long, healthy lives. Being the closest government to our community, they are aware of the crucial responsibility in advancing the health and happiness of its citizens.
Council supported consultative engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, including professional organisations, community partners, community leaders, Local authority advisory groups, priority cohorts of all ages and life stages, all Council divisions, and the greater Monash community (MHWP, 2022).
Social perspective
The Plan lists several groups in our community and their particular goals, such as those who live with disabilities and those who care for them, our varied multicultural community, sustainability and climate change, community safety, gender equality, prevention of violence against women and children, LGBTIQA+, age-friendly, sport and leisure, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, libraries, children, young people, and families (MHWP, 2022).
Council supported consultative engagement with many stakeholder groups, including professional organisations, community organisations, advisory councils, priority cohorts of varying ages and life stages, all Council divisions, and the greater Monash community. Through this strategy, Monash has acknowledged that individuals of various genders have distinct needs and experiences and that certain programmes and services may actually serve to perpetuate existing inequalities. This is in line with the Gender Equality Act 2020. To make sure that all members of the Monash community can benefit from Council's policies, programmes, and services, we will perform gender impact evaluations (Meadley et al,2020).
