Identify the dependent and independent variables correlation measures a relationship between two variables but does not tell us that one causes the other. 2.Write a null hypothesis. Number of poor mental health days is unrelated to the age of the patient. 3. Write an alternative non-directional hypothesis. There will be more poor mental health days in patients that are younger compared to the number of poor mental health days in patients that are older. 4. Interpret your results. A Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was computed to assess the relationship between participants perception of a poor mental days experienced and the age of the participant. There was a positive correlation between the two variables, r = .149, n = 21, however, the relationship was not significant ( p = .520).
