1. Determine how Five Guys’ philosophy sets it apart from other fast-food chains.


2. Analyze the original values for the start-up company and how it remains strong today.


3. Enumerate three (3) factors that contributed to Five Guys’ success in such a short time and what effect, if any, external markets had on these factors.


4. Assess how ethical and social practices are part of the Five Guys’ culture and provide examples to support your choices.

Five Guys started out as a very small take-away burger joint initially kicked off by Jerry Murrell for the
ir oldest sons who didn’t wish to continue their formal college education. So in a bid to stop them from wasting their time and also keep them employed, he came up with an idea of burger joint and then employing those two sons into it. Soon it became quite popular and a well established chain store in the US and Canada known as Five Guys Burgers and Fries. They are currently present in 47 US States, 6 Provinces in Canada and also present in London, England. As of 2012, they have nearly 1000 Restaurants in the US and Canada and another 1500 in development.
There are numerous things about Five Guys that sets it apart from many other chain fast food restaurants. First of all, their philosophy is to have a simple and limited product lineup and mostly concentrate on foods, rather than anything else. Their product lineup is quite limited. Unlike KFC or McDonalds which sell dozens of different food items and constantly come up with new ones, Five Guys sells only limited food items. Their original values as that when they were a startup holds strong today.
This is because they believed that if they wanted to compete with other bigger players in the market they would have to do something different and in this case that different was to focus on food entirely. So while others were busy brainstorming new food ideas and Five Guys essentially only served Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Sandwiches and Fries which they have been doing this since opening their first outlet. Even most of the items on their menu are original which they used when they had started up along with the original top quality ingredients and also have strived hard to maintain the taste.
