The first paper is your normal two-page short essay on a subject relevent to the learning objective or the topic of discussion in the forum. This paper must be in the APA format. So read or review again how to write a reference, but more than that, how to use those citations at the end of each sentence where you introduce some date, or new fact, or anything found from your readings – that reference. The second paper is an outline of your research paper. This outline should not be just a list of talking points. This outline has to have some meaning, some definition. So, prepare a statement for each item. This outline is the initial one for that final paper. It will change over the next few weeks. Why? Because of you finding new information and because of my great editing skills. If you are having trouble selecting a topic, please see below for more ideas on how to better select a topic for your research paper. To start, here are the learning objectives: 1. Idenfy the primary Federal framework governing all aspects of producon material, maintenance material, and, product, recovery and disposal AND corporate discharges. 2. Explain the importance of the 29 CFR Hazard Communicaon Standard, a requirement for an MSDS to an organizaon’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs and protocols. 3. Contrast and integrate environmental regulaons that impact on organizaonal plans to dispose of unused or waste materials. 4. Define domesc and internaonal mathemacal technical and scienfic terms used in EHS programs. 5. Describe modalies related to sustainment of materials recovered from waste management programs 6. Idenfy areas of specific concern related to the packaging and protecon of finished goods throughout their life cycle, and those material’s impact on waste streams. 7. Evaluate the direct and indirect impact of reverse logiscs operaons on the local and regional and world environment. 8. Describe the compeve advantages of green pracces. https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/tool/9d40c68c-2061-45f3-86a5-d4f1a89ff896/PagePicker?returnView=&studentItemId=0&backPath=&errorMessage=&clearAttr=&source=summary&title=&sendingPage=-1&newTopLevel=false&postedComment=false&addBefore=&itemId=-1&path=&addTool=-1&recheck=&id= https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/tool/9d40c68c-2061-45f3-86a5-d4f1a89ff896/PagePicker?returnView=&studentItemId=0&backPath=&errorMessage=&clearAttr=&source=summary&title=&sendingPage=-1&newTopLevel=false&postedComment=false&addBefore=&itemId=-1&path=&addTool=-1&recheck=&id= https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/page-reset/bed527fd-7cef-4a40-8b62-0391e5a55367 https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/tool-reset/9d40c68c-2061-45f3-86a5-d4f1a89ff896 https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/tool/9d40c68c-2061-45f3-86a5-d4f1a89ff896/ShowPage?returnView=&studentItemId=0&backPath=&errorMessage=&clearAttr=&source=&title=&sendingPage=1944792&newTopLevel=false&postedComment=false&addBefore=&itemId=6304464&path=1&addTool=-1&recheck=&id= https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/tool-reset/9d40c68c-2061-45f3-86a5-d4f1a89ff896 https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/tool/9d40c68c-2061-45f3-86a5-d4f1a89ff896/ShowPage?returnView=&studentItemId=0&backPath=pop&errorMessage=&clearAttr=&source=&title=&sendingPage=1944792&newTopLevel=false&postedComment=false&addBefore=&itemId=6304464&path=1&addTool=-1&recheck=&id= https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/tool/9d40c68c-2061-45f3-86a5-d4f1a89ff896/ShowPage?returnView=&studentItemId=0&backPath=push&errorMessage=&clearAttr=&source=&title=&sendingPage=1944796&newTopLevel=false&postedComment=false&addBefore=&itemId=6304560&path=next&addTool=-1&recheck=&id= 5/22/2018 APUS CLE : RLMT302 I001 Spr 18 : Lessons https://edge.apus.edu/portal/site/387071/tool/9d40c68c-2061-45f3-86a5-d4f1a89ff896/ShowPage?returnView=&studentItemId=0&backPath=&errorMessage=&clearAt I find that students mostly write about LO-3, LO-7, LO-8. As a suggeson, you can start by checking out a local government website. If you go to any government agency website, you will find that they all have some kind of green iniave. You might want to look at your local government's website to see what they are doing and you can write about that. Reviewing a government website would be a good way to work towards a topic if you are having trouble selecng one. A government website can offer thoughts on topics that relate to LO-3, LO-7 and LO-8. Discussion In addition to the papers this week, and we have a discussion on what you find out by comparing two food productions companies – of your choice. There is a wide variety of companies to select from out there. There are food companies and there are beverage companies. You can select beverage is you like. Go visit a beer company, a winery or a soda company like Coca-Cola. That would be an interesting comparison. Actually, for those two companies, you will find a lot of similarities along the reverse logistics landscape. If you are not sure what to compare, here is a great article that mentions 10 companies that are rethinking food waste. Each approach is different as to show how fundamentally the same result can be achieved through different applications of technology. In addition, all three of these are being done for economic reasons. Note that these approaches to reverse logistics can also apply to a LO-7 related research paper. First, Dell has created a computer that has been specifically designed with recycling in mind. Hence, the unit was designed in order to improve the way the computer can be disassembled and reused or recycled. This intelligent design for reverse logistics is showing how manufacturers are considering how their product is used long after it leaves the assembly line. See below link for more details: Link: http://www.earth911.com/tech/design-for-recycling-award-2014/ Second, a purpose made fungi has been developed in order to specifically assist in the recycling of cell phones. Since cell phones contain precious metals that can be used, a company has developed a fungi that will eat the less desirable parts of a cell phone, leaving behind the precious metals. This is being done in an ecologically friendly manner that does not require expensive labor to disassemble cell phones unit by unit. The cell phones are simply put in a container with the fungi and the precious metals can be pulled out after the fungi have devoured the phone. See below link for more details: Link: http://motherboard.vice.com/read/the-precious-gold-trapped-in-e-waste-can-be-filtered-by-fungi Third, there is a satellite being developed that will be able to retrieve old satellites in order to recycle them. This bold project is being driven by the US Military and the Government to retrieve old technology in order to re- use or recycle the materials rather than just allowing it to remain in orbit or to be destroyed upon reentry. There is not doubt advantages to recycling satellites as they are often full of precious materials that could be re- used. All three are looking at how to better recycle or reuse old technology, but applying new ideas to the process. This week you will be looking at two different food companies so consider innovative directions for food. When considering food companies look at this innovative food company that is looking to change how leftover food can be saved and used.
