ITECH2305 Assignment 1 Specification (1917) ITECH2305 – Analysing the Modern Business CRICOS Provider No. 00103D ITECH2305 Assignment 1 Specification.docx Page 1 of 4 Assignment 1 – Strategic Analysis Overview For this assignment, you will select one strategic plan for a company and complete a report including several analysis tasks to demonstrate your understanding of how to perform strategic analysis. This is an individual assignment. The work must be your own work. Timelines and Expectations Percentage Value of Task: 10% Due: 9:00am, Monday 12 August, 2019 (Week 5). Minimum time expectation: 10 hours Learning Outcomes Assessed The following course learning outcomes are assessed by completing this assessment:  K2: Discuss a variety of contemporary tools and techniques used for business analysis and when these are appropriate to use  K3: Identify and explain the core concepts of business analysis  S2: Investigate and compare various business analysis methods, tools and techniques  S3: Identify and apply appropriate means of communication for disseminating information between stakeholders  S4: Determine a variety of possible solutions and make recommendations to address business needs  A2: Analyse and critique the implementation of a business solution Assessment Details You are required to select and complete several analysis tasks using the actual strategic plan for a real company. You may choose the current strategic plan for any company you wish (except those discussed in the lectures / labs), however a shortlist of possible plans has been provided at this end of this specification to assist you if this is easier for you. Please note that inclusion in this shortlist is no guarantee of the quality of a strategic plan; no review of these plans has occurred other than to identify that it is a current strategic plan for the company in question. Read your selected strategic plan, and then complete the following tasks in a written report: 1. Describe the current state of the selected organisation. 2. Conduct a SWOT analysis for the organisation at the current point in time. 3. Complete a Business Model Canvas, using the template provided in Week 2, based on the current state of the organisation. 4. Describe the proposed future state for the selected organisation, including any key performance indicators or metrics that will indicate when success has been achieved, if available. CRICOS Provider No. 00103D ITECH2305 Assignment 1 Specification.docx Page 2 of 4 5. Document the key stakeholders involved in the transition from the current state to the proposed future state, and their role or level of involvement in the transition. 6. Complete a Risk Register for the transition from the current state to the future state for the organisation. You should try to identify risks from reviewing the strategic plan, from your own critical analysis of the situation and from any relevant research you may conduct to gain additional context or information. You may use information from external sources, such as the news media or other company reports, to help you gain further information to support your analysis, however you MUST reference all such information clearly in your report. IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) Some strategic plans you find, may not provide enough information to be able to clearly address all the requirements of this assessment. If you cannot identify the appropriate information for a particular requirement, you need to document this shortcoming in your report as a deficiency in the strategic plan. You may then be able to fill, or partially fill, some of the gap through additional research which must be referenced. You will not be penalised for missing information if you follow this guidance. 2) Your report must provide a link (URL) to the strategic plan online, so that any person reviewing your report is able to access the strategic plan for their own reference. Submission Your completed report is to be uploaded to Turn It In via the link in Moodle. Only one file is permitted for your submission, as your completed report (saved as either a .doc, .docx or .pdf format file) should contain all information in a format that would be presentable to a business client. Before you can submit your work, you must complete the online Declaration Agreement, to certify that the work is your own work. Once you have completed that, the link for you to submit the work will become available. Please make sure you read the content of the Declaration Agreement before you complete it. Late submissions will have a penalty of 10% of the available marks deducted for each day (or part of day) that it is late. For example, if you submit 30 hours late, this is more than 1 day but less than 2 days, so a penalty of 8 marks out of 40 will be deducted from what your work is worth. If you have a legitimate reason why you won’t be able to submit on time, you must request an extension from your lecturer in advance of the due date, by submitting the relevant documentation.
