One of the young people whom you met on your trip has recently read the The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. The young man, who reads and writes English fluently, has asked you in a letter whether the novel and its characters accurately portray America in the early 1950s. In the two-page letter to your friend, tell him whether the novel provides an accurate portrayal of America in the early 1950s. To support your argument about the novel, be certain to cite key passages from it in your letter. Please note that you must turn in the paper to the class' D2L Dropbox by March 30, 2020 by 11:59 PM CDT. You also must fully participate in the class’ Week 11 D2L online discussion (at least one substantive comment, and 2 substantive responses) to get credit for your paper. Do not e-mail your paper to the professor. Papers that are longer or shorter than two pages will not be accepted. Papers that use—in any way, including paraphrasing—a source other than The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit will not be accepted. This prohibition extends to all online and other articles that discuss the book, including Carol Iaciofano’s “Downright Subversive— Thinking About ‘The Man In The Gray Flannel Suit’.” Four students in 2019 were caught using Iaciofano’s article in my class and were found guilty of academic misconduct by university officials. Please remember that all papers must be typed, double-spaced, in twelve-point font for standard paper (8.5” by 11”). They should have one-inch margins all around. Please indent the first line of each paragraph. You need references not only for direct quotations, but also when paraphrasing or referring to any section of your source. When using direct quotations, make sure that they are well integrated in the body of your own sentences to form full and clear sentences. https://elearn.mtsu.edu/d2l/le/content/7766209/viewContent/62684132/View https://elearn.mtsu.edu/d2l/home/7766209 3/26/2020 Survey United States Hist II - HIST-2020-010 - Survey United States Hist II - HIST-2020-010 https://elearn.mtsu.edu/d2l/le/content/7766209/printsyllabus/PrintSyllabus 2/2 Indent and single-space long quotations (more than two lines or so). You may use either the MLA or Chicago system of citation for direction quotations—as long as you are consistent. Papers that cite The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit as opposed to the Man in the Gray Flannel Suit will not have fulfilled the citation requirement for this paper and will receive a grade of 0. Please plan to post your papers to the D2L Dropbox well before the deadline.

I would like to tell you that I have received your letter and want you to know my views after having read the novel The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. The novel by Sloan Wilson is regarded as an epoch in the American history and it states about a newly developed generation, which was profoundly emancipated after the World War. The war that had already initiated revealing the brutalities, which were forbidden until then. His work paints a vicarious character, which America once was and the civilization that it had been dreaming of becoming a great nation. His work also shows that this dream of becoming great which was eventually shattered under the power exertion that were evident of its naive nature as well as the lack of ability to decipher the difference between an illusion of glory and harshness of reality.
