Although you can assess a company in many ways, a common technique is the SWOT analysis. In this assignment, you’ll practice using SWOT analysis to better understand the factors involved in making business decisions that promote sustainable competitive advantage.







    Select
    and research a company from the 2019 Fortune 500 list that demonstrates a sustainable competitive advantage in the marketplace.







    Evaluate
    the selected company’s sustainable competitive advantage using the SWOT analysis technique.




    Write
    a minimum 1,400 word modified SWOT analysis that includes the following:







    • An introduction with a detailed description of the company

Introduction
Wal-Mart is an American business that has always been the dominant forces in the US retail market, moreover more particularly; it sells and operates as discount chain store.

Strengths
· Determine the established brand name from reasonable price to cheap price and cheap price.
· Walmart is a store and most people still want to buy what they plan to buy when their budget is low-visit.
· Extensive store network, so that all types of individuals can use it regardless of whether the individual has money or not.
Weaknesses
· In the past some years, the associations has faced many lawsuits from worker accusing it of engaging in unfair employment actions, particularly its female employees, which has given association a bad status as an employers.
· The association has also received a lot of negative publicity because of its strong armed strategy and threats to move its business to other places and squeeze margin suppliers.
Opportunities
· The present financial crisis has reduced the disposable earnings of several people, thereby causing a lot of individuals and families to lesser their expectations moreover purchase bargaining prices, so Wal-Mart will gain something in this situation (Barroso et al., 2020).
· The inflation rate in the financial system is falling, and the financial system is on the verge of deflation, so this might mean that a Wal-Mart can provide consumers with more discounts.
Threats
· Well-known retailers for example M&S are giving vast sales, for instance a 50% discount. This is complex for Wal-Mart to contend with, because the profit margin of each unit is not high.
· The reduction in customer disposable income or the impending recession as well as concerns about unemployment have cause individuals to reduce their shopping, which poses a vast risk to Wal-Mart, which relies on customer spending (Hyde, 2019).
Internal factors support and/or promote competitive advantage
Business scale: Wal-Mart is the biggest retailer of the world, with revenue of more than US$400 billion or 10.130 stores (SOBEL & DEAN, 2008). This makes them retail giants that other associations cannot match. Because of such a large-scale operation, Wal-Mart can exercise purchasing power over suppliers to decrease prices. Because of its scale, it can attain higher finances of scale than its competitors.
In charge of information systems: The company has an extensive IS that can track orders, sales, inventory levels, or other associated data in concurrent, so it can save a lot of costs. All this data can be access instantly for decision making and analysis in every store (Merrilees & Miller, 2010). Successful management of the logistics and supply chain is the most vital aspects for success of Wal-Mart’s.
The difference is small. Compared with competitors, Wal-Mart does not have any difference. If commodity prices and average customer income raises, it may hurt the business in future. In this case, the inexpensive leadership strategy will not be as successful as it is presently, and Wal-Mart’s major competitive advantage will be weakened.
