Inc., a solar panel manufacturing and installation company, has recently encountered several legal issues related to harassment allegations by employees, mistakenly classifying workers as independent contractors rather than employees, and internal disputes related to employees posting sensitive company information on their personal social media accounts outside of work.






    To prevent these issues from happening in the future, Solar Co. is in the process of updating its employee handbook, and the CEO has asked you to draft several pieces of material for inclusion in the handbook with each piece containing at least 175 words. The information needed in the request is identified below:



    • A policy related to the prevention of sexual harassment and discrimination including specific action items that will be required of employees and management.

    • A section explaining the difference between an employee and an independent contractor.

    • A policy thathelps ensure workers are properly classified by including specific action items that will be required of employees and management.

    • A policy related to employee use of social media such as guidelines related to appropriate content and identification of Solar Co. in any posts including specific action items that will be required of employees and management.

Every company is committed to provide a safe environment for all of their staffs. That should be free from any kind of discrimination or sexual harassment at workplace. Cheung, Baum and Hsueh (2018) have discussed that the companies now have formed zero tolerance policies that will strictly look after the avoidance of sexual harassment at workplace and will treat all the incidents at a very serious note.
Further, upon investigation, the persons, found guilty for conducting the sexual harassment, will have to face disciplinary action, which will lead to the dismissal from the employment, or the legal action will be taken if the matter is more severe. The policy will include the protocols and norms that will define the physical conduct, verbal conduct and non-verbal conduct that will be strictly followed in the workplace.
Further, there will be complaint mechanism, which will look after incidents related to sexual harassment and employee discrimination. There will two mechanisms of filling complaints that is the formal mechanism and the informal mechanism. The person who is responsible for the carrying of investigation will require the details in the complaint mechanism is to properly conduct the investigation and thus resolve the issue.
