What factors contributed to
the loss of confidence in the Chipotle brand?
The incidents which resulted in loss of confidence in the Chipotle brand was a series of events over a period of five months which resulted in customer grievances and gradual decrease in the sales of Chipotle. These events were a salmonella epidemic which infected the intestinal tract when eaten by 64 people in Chipotle Minnesota restaurant. It was later discovered by the Health Department of the state that it was due to contaminated tomatoes which resulted in such epidemic outbreak. In another incident there were 18 employees and 80 customers in Chipotle hotel in South California resulted in gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting and acute diarrhoea. Later the health department reported that the people were affected to norovirus. Both these incidents occurred in August 2015. In the same year in October 2015, there was an incidence of food poisoning which occurred in Portland, Seattle and Oregon restaurants if Chipotle restaurant in the region of Washington. The medical department confirmed that the illness was caused by E.coli bacteria which are basically found in contaminated foods. Arthur A.
