Introduction
There are many cases of the ERP system implementation which are recorded and many of the companies have announced it as a waste system due to failure. The inability of ERP system for its inappropriate usage in the organization can definitely call a big loss in the organization and this can even result in bankruptcy. There are different types of benefits which are related with the implementation of ERP system. All the benefits leads to increasing the efficiency and will allow the company to have more competitive advantages in this global world but to achieve this efficiency and benefits it is important that company concert experts during the implementation process of ERP in the organization to deliver all the above mentioned benefits and avoid and the failure of the system.
As per the report there are only 34% companies which are using the ERP system and are satisfied with it. But 28% of the companies who implemented ERP systems faced failure. There are 90% of the companies who implemented the ERP systems late and found it unexpectedly expensive. 25% of the money which phone invested in the ERP system was considered as the waste and less than 75% of the ERP system were utilised with its complete effectiveness (Shanks, G).
Most of the companies use only 75% off the system functionality of ERP or its modules the report shows that there are 80% of the ERP system who were not able to achieve all the objectives of the business as they were expecting from the system. There are overall 9 critical success factors and few researchers said that there are total 11 (Aladwani, A.M). In this report we will discuss about 2 different case studies for implementing the ERP system in their organization. The first one is implementation in the mesfine industrial engineering and another one is in the Hershey organization.
Case study 1
The first case study is about the Mesfine Industrial Engineering (MIE) which was founded in 1992 and it mainly deals with construction of metal and electromechanical engineering complex in Ethiopia. It has already used approximately 5 system before starting the project of ERP system. They contacted many of the local vendors for implementing different systems. The implementation of such system was very expensive, and it was very difficult for the organization to develop and maintain them. They were not able to provide consistent, accessible and accurate data as per requirement for any real time performance assessment and decision making like the delivery performance.
These systems were not able to lend themselves completely to the environment of the organization for manufacturing. The latest major manufacturing system which was implemented in the MIE was Merlin which stands for mechanised evaluation of resources, logistics and inventory. The Merlin was basically designed as scheduling system and it was able to perform manual manipulation. one of the particular downfalls which was in the system was the lack of communication between the individual sites.
The working process was transferred from one site to another but could not be tracked accurately which cost inventory and different problems. They used traditional system which was known as corporate cost accounting to monitor the financial transactions and it was implemented to cover pipeline inventory and Inter site transport we also had a range of individual system which can control and monitor the commercial, procurement and financial functions but the system were facing interface problems with each other. These systems had different databases and file formats. These systems did not allow the organization to established online...
