The first step in applying the scientific method is identifying a problem. For this assignment, review the instructional materials for identifying a problem statement
and provide a brief (1-page) description of background relating to a particular research problem (or need). An actual problem should be indicated with accompanying evidence.

The Research Problem


This is an area of conflict, concern, or controversy (a gap between what is wanted and what is observed). Include the most relevant reference that supports the claim.




Background and Justification


The evidence from the literature and experience showing the problem exists and the relevance. Include at least two references.

Introduction
The nurses play an important role in the physical and mental well-being of the patients especially in the aged care centers. They have been to a lot extent responsible for the improvement of the patients through the proper execution of therapeutic sessions of treatment and upholding their mental spirit with effective communication skills. However, it has been observed that many nurses do not take into account their role seriously and they are deprived of proper updated education in order to serve their patients better, as mentioned in the selected paper by Coyle, Burns and Traynor (2017).
1. Research Problem
Lack of knowledge, skills and empathy are often found in the nurses from various studies by researchers all over the world in different healthcare related treatments, like for cancer, pneumonia or identification of delirium in the elderly patients and so on, as supported by Evripidou, Charalambous, Middleton and Papastavrou (2019) and Yeganeh et al. (2019). They have a tendency to have a very casual attitude towards the patients and perform their duties as instructed by the physicians and not any proper implementation of their own ideas.
It has been observed that even after several years of experience the nurses are unable to identify the occurrence of delirium in the patients or even sometimes think that it is actually not their job to do so, as supported by Coyle et al. (2017). There lies a research gap in understanding the reasons behind the lack of knowledge and skills of nurses and whether it actually affecting the longevity of the patients.
