This stewardship construct paper aims to review the stewardship model as given by Wilson (2016). The characteristics along with elements of the stewardship model on the basis of Kent Wilson’s viewpoint are being explained in this paper. This also intends to discuss the need of sticking to these elements by a steward leader within the organization for s
uccessful implementation of same. Furthermore, the benefits and challenges of applying and employing this Wilson model of stewardship in the organization United Way is highlighted which is a non- profit organization. Collectively, the features of Wilson model of stewardship would be analyzed wherein the leader’s job is to supervise and take care of the several resources of organization.
Wilson model of stewardship
Kent Wilson, a nonprofit consultant as well as researcher presented an inclusive model towards the steward leadership style that depicts leaders as stewards or trustees. As per Wilson, steward leadership helps to offer the much required hope for nonprofit leadership transformation and effectiveness for the board members, staff members, stakeholders and the executive directors. This model was designed by a nonprofit leader named Kent Wilson for the benefit of nonprofit leaders as a core (Baptista et al, 2017). This has determination to be the most recent and fresh approach facilitating altogether a new focus on building excellent organization. Wilson gives a well defined and quite appropriate framework for the management that is nonprofit on the basis on context of nonprofit. Traditional steward understanding is applied by him to modern management styles in an organization. This is done by development and definition of the steward leadership over the existing servant leadership. A leader is held responsible for seeking talk opportunities with the members of staff regarding the stewardship, its features, characteristics and elements that employee never thought earlier (Baptista et al, 2017).
Key elements of Wilson’s model of stewardship
According to Kent Wilson, a leader must lead the team members while following a particular approach where each of the employees may feel struggle towards the stewardship meaning and role within the organization. This helps to reinforce the importance of same. Some of the core key elements of stewardship model by Wilson are as follows:
1. Identity based steward leadership
Steward leadership is totally based on the identity where as no other model and approach except the standard servant leadership tends to derive understanding of employees about self and defines view of leaders about him or her. It can be seen that a steward leaders is steward and servant at heart (Kransy et al, 2015).
2. Strong relationship of steward leader with the owner
A steward leader targets to develop a strong ongoing relation with the god as well as the stakeholders while acknowledging that they carry out the resources on behalf of owner of organization. This tends to support identification of goals and the objectives towards the resources. This strong relationship made between the steward leader and owner makes a steward leader outshine and unique compared to owner leaders (Allen et al, 2016).
