This report is made to state possible solution for the extension of network from Main building 
to the new building (B2). Host or employees in new building (B2) are required to have full 
access to resources in Main building and also to have access to internet at the same time. As 
the building-2 is going to be used for Research and Development purpose, so employees of 
main building are required not to have access to resources in new building (B2). Cisco router 
is an edge router of building-1 which is used as a firewall/router to access internet. 
There have to be many things that have to be kept in mind, such as the IP addressing scheme, 
the security policies, vlan, etc. While extending the network there may be some security 
concerns which need to be addressed. Some of them are as following: 
 The users in building (B1) should not get access to resources in new building (B2). 
 The data of the users of new building (B2) should be protected from outside. 
 The users of new building (B2) should be able to access internet securely. 
 Unauthorized access should be denied. 
 Attacks such as IP spoofing, DHCP spoofing, etc. 
These are few of the security concerns that may arise within a network. Some of these can be 
overcome by use of technologies such as VLAN, VPN, etc.  
VLAN: Virtual Local Area Network or Virtual LAN is a technology used to partition the 
physical network so as to create distinct broadcast domains instead of a single broadcast 
domain as in case of LAN.
