The Current report is presented as part of the requirements to complete the course work.
Abstract
The current project is to emphasize the way and means through which, sustainability can be promoted in civil engineering. In accordance with the triple bottom line of action being undertaken in construction industry, the curr
ent focus will be on the ways and means through which civil engineering can be encouraged to include sustainability in the same. The report detailed sustainable practices based on the literature back up and also included insights from the actual practical surveys and other related insights from primary research. The findings along with recommendations are presented in the report on this context. The key insights expressed and the findings briefed in the current report are compelled from the primary and secondary investigation and they will be of use for employing in the current set of civil engineering applications, all sought of applications, mini and major construction can employ the suggested sustainable practices in one way or other in the set of construction practices adapted in the current civil engineering practices. The proposal presents with an overview of the research design, methodology and ethical issues related to the proposal made for the selected region and for the selected research problem.

Research questions and Research objectives
(i) Research objective:
The broad research objective of the current research proposal is to investigate an overview of the current set of practices being employed in the civil engineering department about the sustainability practices. What set of practices are being employed in this context? What type of implications do the sustainable practices can have to the society in general and to the civil engineering professionals in particular? Also the type of challenges they are facing in this context will be investigated as part of the research objective. Another major research objective is to investigate the type of sustainable materials being employed in the construction in the recent years.
(ii) Research questions
A) What are the key sustainable processes being employed in the construction industries? Whether there is any difference in the sustainable practices being employed for residential as well as for commercial construction practices? Whether there is difference in the size and scale of the organization and their implication to the selection of the appropriate practices?
B) What types of sustainable materials are being used at present? What challenges are there in using the same for residential and commercial applications? What challenges are being facing by the stakeholders in using these materials for their current applications?
C) Whether there are any possible future options(Ghaffer et al.,2020) which are even more vibrant and objective oriented in promoting the sustainability in civil works and construction applications. Whether there is any gap in the actual practices being employed and the frameworks and transition mappings presented in the literature?
D) What types of benefits are possible with the proposed and observed sustainable practices in the construction engineering? What can be further recommendations to strengthen these initiatives further?
Literature Review
Sustainability practices in the civil engineering mainly comprise using sustainable materials as well employing sustainable procedures in the construction practices. Most important is the fact that the sustainable materials of different types are employed in the construction like renewable plant materials, straw, mud bricks, timber from the forests, employing managed recyclable materials and other related products which are non-toxic as well as reusable and renewable as well.
At the other side, sustainable designs (Diemer et al. 2018) comprise working for saving the water, energy and environment without actually impacting the environment and ecological balance. Sustainability design and the ideology is contained in the meeting the contemporary needs of the society without actually comprising for the needs of the tomorrow.
Increased consciousness towards better ecology and environment has accelerated people to adapt the sustainable practices in the construction engineering and in the construction processes in particular. In this context, (Bamgbade et al., 2019) indicated that there is considerable need for renovating the regulatory framework under which construction organizations are working for the sake of enforcing the sustainable practices in the construction engineering. At the same time, ( Bamgbade et al., 2016) indicated that there is need for focus on aspects like renovation of organizational culture, flexible design, quality orientation, product diversity as well as customer loyalty into consideration and to shape them for enhancing the environmental sustainability in practice. Through investigation into the organizational cultural aspects it is very much understood, that there is need...
