Introduction
The Israel-Palestinian Conflict was
thought to be from time immemorial. Many Muslims refer to the Qur’an, and a treaty in the Qur’an as proof of a treaty between the Jews and the Muslims, and this was the reason given for the start of the crisis. However, it is safe to say that the conflict has reached the pinnacle during recent times, and it has resulted in the loss of thousands of live. Millions of Palestinians have been displaced, and the State of Israel has been expanding ever since (Bernard, 2018). The treaty that was brokered by the United Nations has not been extremely successful, and the interventions of the United States have only been making the conflict worse in many cases.
The following paper looks at the case study of the Israel-Palestinian conflict. It looks at the possible actors who have been an issue in the conflict, the origins and the sources of the conflict, and a discussion of how the conflict has changed over time. It will look at the greed or grievance model to look at how the conflict has evolved over time.
Origins of the Conflict
The conflict mainly started in the 1900s, even though it is said that it was a biblical conflict. During the times of the Ottoman Empire, the Jews and the Arabs, and the Christians lived peacefully in the area. This however changed dramatically as the Ottoman Empire lost and was removed from the area. Jews in the meanwhile, decided to join the European movement, and demanded that they have an area of their own country. After the second world war, many Jews decided to move to Palestine, which had been occupied by the British, and demand that the country be a Jewish country (Hajjar, 2017). This led to the formation of Israel and Palestine. Israel was supposed to be for the Jews, and Palestine had become a place for the Muslims. The holy city of Jerusalem however, was to become an international site, and not just belonging to Palestine or Israel. However, the Arab countries thought that this was an attempt at colonialization, and waged a war against Israel. Israel won, and soon started expanding on the borders. This led to the Palestinians being forced to leave their land, and many Palestinians, whose descendants’ amount to nearly 7 million people left the land. This has been the origins of the conflict, which has claimed millions of lives, and has displaced many millions more.
Greed or grievance Model
This is a case of greed, since the state of Israel, after wining the war with the other Arab countries, was greedy about expanding the boundaries. Many people from Israel decided to settle into Jerusalem, and many other parts of Palestine. This was mostly done because of greed for natural resources and the farms and soil, along with the prosperity that the government would provide (Gelvin, 2014). The greed was the primary reason for the beginning of the conflict. However, it is not just Israel that is at fault. The Arab nations were not satisfied with the amount...
