1. Would the subsidiaries still be competitive and adaptive in local markets if forced to coordinate
with other subsidiaries around the world?
Globalization has become rampant and it calls for coordination from multiple units or subsidiaries of
an organization. However, they all can be leveraged to independent independently based on the
current local market scenario, but more importantly they are part of a single organization and they
should aim to achieve common goals the organization has set forth. RI needs to have a better
control over its subsidiaries scattered around the goal and unite them all for better coordination and
cohesiveness. Levitt declared that “companies must learn to operate as if the world were one large
market - ignoring superficial regional and national differences”. This will help in organization
resources and capabilities to become more competitive globally.
The main aim of RI should be to become competitive globally rather locally. Being successful in few
local markets would not decide the success and fate of RI. If local subsidiaries cooperate with other
subsidiaries, they will still be competitive and adaptive to local markets. In fact, they can become
