Annotated bibliography:This assessment requires you to develop a critical assessment of the relevant literature surrounding the topic under discussion and demonstrate academic skills in researching evidence based best practice. This assessment also reflects your engagement with course material.
As a Registered Nurse, your clinical knowledge and best practice develops from the evidence found in researching the literature (journals). Nurses have an obligation in remaining current in their practice which means you have a commitment to life-long learning.
Aim of this assessment: To demonstrate that you understand how to undertake a literature search and compile a critical evaluation of the articles you have chosen
Hint:Go back and review all the information you have been provided with. Watch the videos againbefore you start writing! Read this book and take note of the example in Chapter 9 provided by the Learning Skills Advisors.
Develop your Annotated Bibliography in conjunction with the Marking Guide (rubric) contained in Chapter 4 of this book.

Word Count:300 words per annotated bibliography -900 words for entire assessment piece (+ or - 10%).In this assessment task you are asked to provide complexity rather than word count.
Marking Guide (Rubric):Develop your annotated bibliographies (3) in conjunction with the marking guide (rubric).
Referencing:This course requires you to identify each article in American Psychological Association [APA] referencing style. Each article should be no more than seven (7) years old and of specific relevance to the topic (above).Yourarticle must be from a peer reviewed journal from Australia, UK, America or JapanONLY-for example -The International Journal of Mental Health NursingISSN: 1324-3780
Topic:The importance of correct site selection for subcutaneousorintramuscular injection administration (you only need to pickone(1)type of parenteral injection).
Sources:Three (3) peer reviewed journal articlesare required. Your precis of each article will need to be succinct in relation to critically analysing each article you have chosen i.e. you have 300 words to discuss your article using the steps/headings shown below. How to proceed:You are first asked to show that you can undertake a search of the academic literature by researching and then selecting three (3) articles of evidence based best practice on the topic of your choice i.e. subcutaneous or intramuscular injection This assessment then requires you to demonstrate your critical assessment skills (using the steps/heading below) in order to evaluate the journal articlesyou have selected.

Choose your topic i.e.subcutaneousorintramuscular correct site selection for parenteral injection,thencritically analyse your selected articles using the following 5 steps:
- citation information in format- ie: title, author, year, link -NB: ensure your citation is in APA format and has a DOI access number for the marker to follow in order to check the article
- what is the author’s viewpoint
- what are the research findings of the paper you are discussing
- was the paper useful or did it have limitations
- evaluative comment - e.g. the findings.
