Assessment Task 3 Service design Case study This task is broken into two components, parts A and B. Part A (worth 30% of the available marks) The first task requires you to critically appraise the extent to which existing services support the older person with BPSD. There are two options: Option 1 is an environmental audit of your current workplace using an audit tool, eg. The Dementia Friendly Community Environment Assessment Tool, or The Environmental Audit Tool, or Other – please identify and discuss with lecturer. You are required to obtain consent from your workplace before undertaking this option. The information sheet and consent form is located in the Assessment Resources folder on MyLO. A signed copy of the consent must be submitted with your assignment. Option 2 requires you to compare and contrast two services, from different countries, or cultural groups within Australia, which support the person with BPSD. It is recommended that you discuss the evidence you want to use for this analysis with the lecturer beforehand, or use the supplied articles. Part B (worth 30% of the available marks) For this task you will have the opportunity to test your ideas for designing a service that enhances the lives of older people living with BPSD. Innovation must be evidence-based, that is, supported by scholarly literature. Assessment Criteria Measures Intended Learning Outcome: Part A Workplace audit or critical analysis (30%) Criterion 1 Critically relate your knowledge of the pathophysiology of dementia and BPSD to the service model/s you discuss in either Option 1 or Option 2. 1,2,3 Criterion 2 Demonstrate the qualities of a reflective practitioner by critically reflecting on your own, and observed practice in the care of an older adult living with BPSD and the extent to which you, and your colleagues, or the service being analysed, have supported that person’s well-being. 1,2,3 Mental Health Well-Being and Dementia Care Criterion 3 Critically analyse the extent to which existing services support the older person with BPSD. In your analysis you will identify in either (Option 1) your workplace, or (Option 2) two different services, the philosophies and practice used to support the older person with BPSD. 1,2,3 Criterion 4 Demonstrate your understanding of service-design models by critiquing these services. Your critical evaluation will clearly identify the extent to which these existing designs meet the identified need/s from your analysis. 1,2,3 Task length 1000 – 1200 word maximum (excluding references) Part B Service design project (30%) Criterion 5 Critically relate your knowledge of the pathophysiology of dementia and BPSD to the justification for the service model you design 1,2,3, 4, 5 Criterion 6 Identifies the philosophy and practice concept/s you have adopted in your service-design. Presenting compelling evidence for adopting this philosophy and practice in your design with particular regard as to how it will support the older person with BPSD. 1,2,3, 4, 5 Criterion 7 Presents an argument supporting the merits of your ideas in designing a service that enhances the lives of older people living with BPSD. Innovation must be evidence-based, that is, supported by scholarly literature 1,2,3, 4, 5 Criterion 8 Writes clearly in an appropriate academic style and structure Task length 1000 - 1200 words equivalent Date 2400hrs 2/10
