ASSESSMENT TASK 3: CREATIVE TASK AND WRITTEN REFLECTION
In this assessment you will reflect on Catholic social thought to apply it to a theme from this unit and

a marginalised or minority group in Australia society. There are two parts for this assessment task.

Part 1: Produce an original and creative work that reflects the relevance of CST principles and a

theme from the unit to a marginalised or minority group in Australia.

Original and creative work: choose one from the following options:

1) a letter to a chief executive officer of a company; or
2) a poster; or
3) a written direction/script for a dramatic/comedic scene/skit; or
4) a journal entry.

The original and creative work is not included in the overall word count for this assessment

task and should be no more than one A4 page in length (or equivalent). Kindly note: the

original and creative piece is not assessed per se, but it is a necessary requirement for this

assessment task.
CST principles: choose subsidiarity and participation.
Theme: choose one from the following options:

1) Flourishing and the good life (relates to Module 3); or
2) Empathy and compassion (relates to Module 4); or
3) Advocacy and action (relates to Module 5).

Marginalised or minority group: choose one from the following options:

1) Culturally and linguistically diverse people; or
2) Migrants to Australia from countries affected by civil/international conflict or natural

disasters.

Part 2: Based on your original and creative work, write a personal reflection that explores the

relationships between the prescribed CST principles; your chosen theme from the unit; your chosen

group; and how these relationships are important for your course of study.

Course of study: the degree program you are enrolled in at ACU.

There's a lot of depth to Catholic social teaching (CST). It is ancient in that it exposes eternal truths within the Church's two thousand years of history and contemp
orary in that it is ever-evolving in response to the world (Barton & Garvis,2019). The Church has given serious thought to many of the most pressing problems facing contemporary societies, such as what kind of government and economic system would be best for fostering human freedom, why religion should be discussed in public forums, what kinds of pathologies are destroying our culture, how businesses should ensure workers are treated with respect, and the risks of a "welfare state," to name just a few. This essay i have chosen theme empathy and compassion related to group of Culturally and linguistically diverse people.
I'll make the case that Catholic Social Teaching's emphasis on holistic human flourishing may theoretically advance the study of human development and have a tangible impact on ongoing social and political endeavours (Deneulin,2018). Severine Deneulin has commented on the contributions of Catholic Social Teaching to issues of Human Development in two condensed articles: In one article, the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World: Guadium et Spes of the Second Vatican Council is examined, and in the other, key lessons from that document are examined.
The Populorum Progressio of Pope Paul VI. She argues that, while CST and secular development thought can seem to be on the same page at first glance, religious groups really share certain values and norms that run counter to those of the current economic and social order (Oviedo & Torralba,2021). By analysing numerous important CST concepts, I want to build on Deneulin's work by pointing out areas where the CapabilityApproach falls short and where CST, in my opinion, may significantly improve it. My argument is supported by a real programme I created that addresses linguistic and cultural diversity, is based on the core ideas of CST, and refers to Martha Nussbaum's CapabilityApproach list as a reference (Sinutko, Wodwaski & Adams,2022).
Since many individuals of various origins and groups live together owing to historical events or frequent human migrations, linguistic and cultural diversity is a prevalent trait in most countries across the globe. In order to keep their unique identities and histories alive, multilingual cultures work hard to keep their many cultural and ethnic languages alive. That's crucial for many people living amongst a variety of cultures, since losing their native tongue poses a serious threat to their own unique history and identity.
Culturally and linguistically, Australia is the most diverse country in the world. The long-established Torres Strait and Aboriginal Islander populations were the first sources of this variety (Murphy,2018).
