Assessment task 2
In week 6, I learned about the concepts of managing human resources. It is a practice to control and maintain effective manpower in an organization. Active and energetic manpower is a pillar of any organization. Proper management of human resources helps to achieve organizational goals and boosts in performance of an organization. Here, I learned about the core knowledge of human resource planning under 3 processes, they are – recruiting, selecting, and managing talents. These terms were really keet important to me in the future. Selecting proper human resources reminds me of my past event, where I was a Chairman of a child club at my school level and I have to recruit, select and manage talents inside the club to lead and control the programs in the near future. Also, I have gained lots of important points of innovations in human resource management such as recognizing the company as an employer of choice, recruiting casual and part-time staff, and giving emphasis on teams and projects. I learned about compensation which is also a part of human resource management. It may be in a part of wage & salaries, and goods/commodities which are given as a reward to employees. It has several benefits for a company such as covering 40% of labor costs, worker’s compensation, etc. In the future, I will adopt the process of performance appraisal which will help me to observe and evaluate employees’ performance and keep their records and can give me wide view feedback, and implement a behaviorally anchored rating scale.
In week 7, I learned about leadership which is one of the most discussed topics in management. Organizational success and performance highly rely on leadership. Leadership influences and attracts the employees towards the attainment of organizational goals. Here, I was new to 4 approaches to leadership, such as level 5 leadership, servant leadership, authentic leadership, and interactive leadership, as well as I learned about the concepts of styles of leadership like directing style, coaching style, supporting style, and entrusting style. Now, discussing my past experience, I have a quality of a transactional leader, when I was in school as a chairperson of a child club, I used to discuss the plans and programs to be carried out in society about the “sanitation program” where I projected a plan to members and school students to provide knowledge to people of their community and students/ members will be rewarded with a prize and introduced to others. This process includes role and task requirements, initiating structure, provide rewards. I learned about the transformational leadership perspective where a leader can create, have communication, and share plans and strategies for the attainment of organizational goals which is really important for me. In the future, I will motivate employees and support their views, and for better communication, the use of metaphors, symbols, and frame messages will be more effective. Also, I will implement the vision through behavior and experiment with new methods. Lastly, I will include employees' involvement during organizational plans and strategy discussions in shaping the shared vision.
In week 8, I learned about the concept of motivating employees, which is one of the essential parts to achieve organizational goals and organizational success. Firstly, motivation refers to the intention of obtaining a goal, leading to goal-oriented behavior. The productivity of any organization depends upon its employees' motivation and devotion to the organizational goals and strategies. Employees can be rewarded with intrinsic and extrinsic rewards as a part of the motivation. Motivation consists of need, behavior, and reward along with feedback. Here, I got to know about four theories; Hierarchy of needs theory, ERG theory, Two-factor theory, and Acquired theory. Among them, I found the hierarchy of needs theory quite effective and practical. Talking about my past experience, I used to work as a night filler in a big mart back in my home country, where my psychological needs were first fulfilled and later on, I look forward to my safety there, and other needs were also on a row. This hierarchy theory totally relates to practical life. This theory has aspects of fulfillment off the job, need for hierarchy, and fulfillment on the job. ERG theory is quite similar to need theory. I also got exposure to process theory with a key perspective on goal-setting theory, equity theory, and expectancy theory. In the future, I will implement the concepts of the content theory of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory which helps to get through psychological needs, safety needs, belongingness needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs with the development of potentiality of employees through training advancements, growth, and creativity. Lastly, it was very informative to learn about the expectancy theory and its prospective.
