The chronic disease known as hypertension, often known as high blood pressure, affects millions of people all over the world. Due to its link to serious health issues like heart disease, stroke, renal issues, and more, it is a significant public health concern. Antihypertensive drugs are frequently provided to hypertension patients in order to control their condition and lower the likelihood of consequences. However, adherence to medicine, or rather the lack thereof, is a significant obstacle in the management of hypertension.
Rationale for Research
· Public Health Impact: Globally, hypertension is a significant public health burden. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that hypertension causes around 8 million fatalities each year, making it one of the top causes of death globally. Uncontrolled blood pressure levels are largely caused by non-adherence to prescribed antihypertensive drugs, which raises the risk of cardiovascular events, stroke, and renal disease. To mitigate these risks and lessen the total cost of hypertension-related disorders on healthcare systems and society, it is essential to do research on medication adherence in hypertensive patients.
· Cost Implications: Non-adherence to medication increases the expense of healthcare. Uncontrolled hypertension patients need more frequent doctor visits, hospital stays, and emergency treatment. Due to missed productivity and revenue, these expenses harm people's financial well-being in ways that go beyond the healthcare system. We could lessen the financial burden on people and healthcare systems by enhancing drug adherence.
· Patient Outcomes: The health of people with hypertension is at the centre of this study. Subpar health outcomes, such as worsening blood pressure management, elevated cardiovascular risk, and decreased quality of life, can be brought on by poor drug adherence. Effective adherence-improving strategies can improve health outcomes, life expectancy, and quality of life for hypertensive people and their families.
· Health Disparities: There are variations in medication adherence across different groups. Adherence may provide particular challenges for some populations, such as underserved communities and people with lower socioeconomic status. In order to address health equality challenges, it is essential to comprehend these differences and create specialized solutions. Research in...
