Discussion of Community Engagement Theory with Particular Reference to the Pillars of Community Engagement
The community engagement is an important topic and needed in today’s time. Firstly, it is needed that basic understanding of community engagement is provided so that understanding about it can become easy. Thus, its definition should be understood first in general. The community engagement is a procedure in which communication is done in a flexible way by understanding each other’s view of thinking and coming out with a positive solution in a community or group. It includes various steps or methods, which are necessary to build a good community engagement. There are main methods, also known as the pillars of community engagement, which are mentioned below:
· Making connections
· Behaving with humility
· Good level of understanding
· Maintaining dignity
· Supporting justice
All the pillars of community engagement are described so that one can know how to achieve community engagement objectives.
Making Connections:
Making connection refers to building connection with new people. Whenever people are in a community, they have to talk to people. If they do not talk then they will not be able to support in the matters of community or will not be able to give contribution of themselves in the community. Thus, it is needed that one should talk whenever they are in a group, which is also known as community. Now, the question is how to make new connections. It is very easy to make new connection. One can simply meet a person by a smile asking about them and then they can start a general conversation of any social background.
Behaving with Humility:
The humility is also a very important quality that one must possess in order to gain a high level of appreciation and bonding with community people that is people who are in groups. Humility can be defined as the humbleness, which means to be low. It is needed that the people should be humble while interacting with people in groups. As mentioned by Fitzgerald et al. (2016), it is because no one wants to feel low in front of others and when everyone in a group start showing themselves as a person with strong point of view then conflict will occur for sure. To prevent the conflicts, it is required that whenever one is in a group, then they should be humble. They should listen to the point of views of others also and then give theirs too. However, they should never try to show that their point is good only, and not of others, as otherwise quarrels can occur.
Good Level of Understanding:
There should be a good level of understanding to understand people. Many people do not try to listen to others view and keep on telling that they are right. This is really a stupid act. One must be humble and try to understand others point of view also so that when they tell theirs then community will listen them...
