Task

WHAT TO DO:

  1. Follow the Study Schedule and work with the Topics (Modules) in Interact as they provide a "scaffold" for your learning in this subject.

  2. Develop a detailed CapstoneProject Proposal and Planusing project management software (as listed in the Study Schedule) and the skills you have acquired from IT Project Management to develop a project plan with aWork Breakdown Structure(WBS), milestones andGantt chart. These tools may help.

    1. MicrosoftProject Pro (http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/project/);

    2. Open source tools like GanttProject (http://www.ganttproject.biz/);

    3. OpenProj(http://sourceforge.net/projects/openproj/)

    4. OpenProject (https://www.openproject.org/about).

    5. ProjectLibre (http://www.projectlibre.org/)

  3. Begin using the 'project blog' as a tool beyond theweekly progrees reportsfor your chosen emerging technology topic:

    1. The blog is a way to not only "think by writing" and make your notes but also store project files and links in a cloud-based service.

    2. Consider sharing the site with your peers as a way to tell a story and harness each others knowledge.

  4. The blog is ideallyupdated each weekwith 3 or 4 entries for documenting your project notes and as the foundation for editing and writing the Capstone Project Report. An ideal blog entry will have around 50-150 words (150-600 words a week).

  5. Group Work OPTION for Assessment Items(Not recommended for Online Study mode students): The Group Capstone Project Proposal and Plan is submitted by the team of three (3 maximum group size) for a group mark on a project proposal and plan that clearly indicates the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Role and Responsibilities of EACH member to carry an equal share of the load in the project work.

Rationale

TheCapstone Topic Project Planallows for a broad range of project areas like systems administration, database systems, IT security, mobile technology etc. Often the project has a sponsor and is linked to your interest or workplace needs. The proposal has a research component(Assessment Item 3 Annotated Bibliography) so in some cases you may need to find a supervisor willing to accept you as a candidate.

TheLearning Outcomesbeing assessed in this item include how you interpret and evaluate an overview of recent trends in emerging technologies and innovation and begin to to plan, execute, record and present your research and project work as a capstone experience.

YourCapstone Project Proposal and Planwill be evaluated with aseries of questionsthat you can use as aChecklist:

  • Is the capstone topic area appropriate?

  • Has the Project Blog been setup?

  • Has there been sufficient justification of the choice of the topic?

  • Is there enough scope for a sufficiently deep/complex analysis?

  • Is the scope appropriate for what might be reasonably expected in the capstone project subject?

  • Is the methodology proposed clear?

  • Are the deliverables clearly set out?

  • Are the deliverables sufficiently complex to justify a pass in this activity?

  • Is it likely that the proposed activities can be reasonably carried out?

  • Is it likely that the student will have access to the necessary resources to do a satisfactory job?

  • Is the time line proposed realistic?

Marking criteria

Weekly Progress Reports Plan
The blog entries will be used to track the weekly progress and there will be 2-4 such entries made per week.
Rationale
There are a number of innovative and emerging technologies. Internet of Things (IoT) is one such technology that has emerged recently and there is a lot of research going on in this area.
The technology provides a mechanism to inter-connect a variety of devices, processes, and systems. There are numerous benefits it provides to the organizations that use it. Healthcare is an industry that has benefitted from IoT and one such IoT-based application is being developed for a healthcare organization. It will allow the patients to avail tele-health and remote health services.
Problem Domain
There are numerous problems that the patients face while availing health services. Some of these problems include enhanced waiting time, delay in the health care services, and difficulty in diagnosis, unavailability of the doctor or medical team, and many more.
Purpose and Justification
The primary purpose of the application is to make sure that the patients are provided with the non-stop health services at any location. The application will also make it easy for the medical professionals to have the patient data and information at one platform and to analyse the same using automated tools for better diagnosis and treatment.
The IoT-based application will provide inter-connection of the devices, such as healthcare equipment, Smartphones, network peripherals, computer systems, and many more. These devices will be further connected with a wide variety of processes, networks, and methods.
Sponsor or Supervisor Recommendation
The project is being sponsored by the medical centre that has a good brand image in the medical fraternity and also has a huge patient base. There will be a number of activities that will be carried out in the project and the funds for the execution and completion of these activities will be provided by the sponsor. The sponsor will provide the marketing benefits to the organization as there will already be an established patient base available.
Conceptual or Theoretical Framework
Conceptual Framework [4]
The figure illustrated above displays the conceptual framework for the IoT-based application. The devices and equipment illustrated in the figure will capture the health signs of the patient, store them in the database, share them with the medical team, and transfer the medical reports to the patient. The framework would allow the sharing of health information remotely and will also allow tele-health monitoring and remote health management.
Methodology
There are numerous project methodologies that have been defined and the one that will be used in this case will be Project Management Body of Knowledge which is also referred as PMBOK.
The entire project will be carried out in five phases as project initiation, planning, project execution, control, and project closure.
The project will begin with the initiation phase in which the initial project activities, such as feasibility studies, kick-off meeting, project chartering, and charter approval will be carried out. The planning of the...
