Engage in discussion around three (3) questions in yourDiscussion Forums
and complete the short survey (no marks attached to survey).
Rationale
Assignment 1a prompts students to:
- become familiar with the forum as a tool for discussing issues with fellow students and their tutors
- become familiar with the UNCRC
- engage with the initial readings for the subject
- reflect upon what they are learning with their work as educators.
Students will have the opportunity to practice academic referencing before submitting the essay component (1b) of this assessment.
The short survey is about the scaffolding we have provided for you through interact2 to assess its usefulness and help us shape any future scaffolding for the next assessments.

Presentation
On yourDiscussion Forum, you are required to post a response to the three questions outlined below. Each question generates its own response (in other words, do not do one post that answers all three questions).
You may either initiate a discussion or respond to someone else’s post. In your posting, back up your response to the question with reference to your readings.
Each posting is only short. A maximum of 200 words for each post, excluding references.
Make sure that you follow the correct procedures for referencing. You need to provide both in-text citations and a reference list at the end of each post (even if you only use one reference).
In order to pass you must make a minimum of one posting per question. Please commence your postings in the first week of study and complete them by the end of the third week. You cannot make all your postings in the final week. Answer the questions in your own words, drawing on your readings. The short survey also needs to be completed.
Requirements
Question 1.
After reading the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and associated readings (Week 1), select one article from the Convention you think is especially important for your work as an early childhood educator. DO NOT choose Article 31. State the number of the article, describe it in your own words and briefly explain why you think it is relevant.
Question 2.
After reading the booklet on the Right to Play (Week 2: Module 2) briefly explain why the Right to Play is relevant to your work as an early childhood educator.
Question 3.
Find an example of practice in your early childhood setting that relates to the Right to Play. It can either be an example of good practice or an example of where practices could be improved. Explain why you believe this is a good or poor example of respecting children's right to play. Do NOT identify your workplace.
