Summative Assessment One: Sociology theory essay
Aim: Students will demonstrate understanding of sociology theoretical perspective as they relate to groups and communities within Ᾱotearoa New Zealand.

Task: Ngā Tuhi :
1. Choose and identify a sociology theory
2. Identify a community within Ᾱotearoa New Zealand
3. Apply the theory to the community of an identified geographical area
How your essay may look:
Brief introduction outlining the essay (write in “the third person”).
Brief overview of sociological theory as it applies to Ᾱotearoa New Zealand society (You will need to use at least 3 0r 4 appropriate supportive academic references).
Using the theory you have chosen, discuss at least 3-4 components of that theory (You will need to use at least 3 or 4 appropriate supportive academic references).
Provide examples from the community in Ᾱotearoa New Zealand to show how the theory works in action. Explain the links to theory.
Write a conclusion summarising the main points.
