Part A: Lesson plan (20% no word limit)

    • Produce or adapt a lesson plan for an EAL/D class. Your lesson plan can be teacher created (by you) or adapted from a commercially produced book, online materials etc...This part must be attached to your essay (eg. as an appendix) so that you can discuss the plan.

    • Present your information clearly, logically and dress all criteria. Make sure to draw on theoretical perspectives outlined in the course materials, various readings and a range of sources, such as ACARAand DECD documents through out your essay to substantiate your work. (10%)

If you do not have access to an EAL/D setting, you can create a hypothetical class or use one of the classes in the video clips from the DVD in the back of the textbook or the video linked below as the basis for your lesson planning, analysis and critique.

Part A Lesson Plan
Lesson plan
Alphabet and formation of spel
lings
Students need to learn all the letters in the alphabet and the spelling should progress from one letter words, two-letter words, and three letter words and so on. It will help the students understand the language from the very basic level and they would start identifying the English language (Miller et al, 2012).
Numbers
Introduction to Cardinal and ordinal numbers must be given after giving an introduction to alphabet and spelling formation. Numbers are very important and everybody needs to calculate daily. It will help the students start speaking the numbers in English (Angelo, 2013).
Family and friends
It is time to introduce the names of family members, relatives, friends, and acquaintances. This will help the students start speaking in English to their family members and friends. They will start referring to their friends and family members in English to begin speaking in English (Miller et al, 2012).
Parts of speech
Before the teacher starts to teach the students about the formation of sentences, the teachers must make their pupils understand parts of speech and their types. It will be easier for the students to understand the subject-verb-object structure and other structures and I can start speaking easily and effectively (Miller et al, 2012).
Small sentences
The teacher must introduce small sentences after completing the parts of speech. It can be done with the help of instructions. Both positive and negative instructions can be used to make the pupils speak good quality English.
Introduction to everyday vocabulary
Everyday vocabulary including grocery items, names of fruits, vegetables, clothes, animals, birds, colors, vehicles, and all other important things that can be seen in the surroundings must be involved in the curriculum and should be taught (Angelo, 2013).
Grammar
Now it is time to introduce grammatical structures with which the students can understand the usage of parts of speech and remember the rules related to articles, active voice, passive voice, usage of modals, comparative degrees of adjectives and adverbs, clauses, etc.
Likes and dislikes
The students must be encouraged to speak about their likes and dislike using the learning given to them in the previous lessons. They also must be encouraged to talk to their friends and family members in English to express their opinions (Miller et al, 2012).
Extempore
Students should be promoted to use more and more English in the classes and extempore is the best activity, to begin with. If they start speaking in the classes, it will be easier for them to communicate with others also spontaneously (Angelo, 2013).

Part B: Essay
· Based on different characteristics of an EAL/D learning environment that influence the teaching approaches and strategies used to address learner needs, identify and describe your EAL/D learning context (ie. types of learners, class size, school, year level, language levels etc..) for your lesson plan. Approx.  250-300 words (15%)
The EAL/D learning context would be based on the types of learners, language levels, school, year level, size of the class, etc. The types of learners would be from all over the world who have the different educational background, who are from different countries, of different age groups, both men and women, children and adults, different ethnicities, different cultures, different societies, and different communities even after belonging to the same country, etc (Hertzberg and Freeman, 2012).
The size of the class would be at least 20-40. Below 20 the strength of the class is not possible because there will be activities promoting International among the learners and if there will be enough learners, they would enjoy the sessions.
The language levels of all the learners can be different depending upon the knowledge and education of the English language in their curriculum till school or college level. It also depends on the type and quality of the school or college, the educational qualification of the teachers teaching English, their approach and strategies of teaching English, the atmosphere the teachers create by speaking English, etc. Show the language of the learners will be different depending...
