Introduction
Social perspective on every aspect or concept is highly dynamic and variable, therefore, sociologists analyses social phenomenon at different levels and different perspectives that society possess. Sociologists suggest small sociological patterns as micro level while large social patterns as macro level of analysis. Social interpretations can be highly dynamic varying between generalised to concrete. This analysis focuses upon the sociological perspective on the article ‘Indigenous university students say lack of cultural understanding affecting graduate Numbers’. Efforts will be implied in order to compare the sociological perspectives of society through a critical analysis of this article and through theoretical models.
Ideology and Concept
The current article focuses upon one of the most sensitive topics of society that is non-supportive practices followed by academic institutions with respect to indigenous communities. Aboriginals and Torres Strait islander communities are the native communities of Australia; they have been living at the geographical location way before then the non-indigenous people arrived in the continent. Yet indigenous communities are not treated equally by the society. (Evans, 2017)
The mentioned article addresses the issues faced by indigenous community students during their graduation or during their academic sessions, and states the facts in a clear tone to hint at the current condition of indigenous communities in the society. This article focuses more towards the fact that cultural practices of indigenous communities are not given equal importance as compared to non-indigenous communities.
Universities and other academic institution in Australia do not recognise the cultural practices followed by indigenous communities (Barney, 2016). As a result of the improper recognition of aboriginal culture, students from indigenous communities struggle to complete their studies at these institutions because they face the issues of communication, biased score providing and use of cultural example, which are alien to them, positioned in sharp contrast...
