Introduction
Professional counsellor and counselling sessions are planned in order to provide psychological help as well as provide mental support to the patients. It would be essential to consider that even after the training of counsellor may be same, each of them may have unique methods as well as strategies to conduct counselling. Therefore, diversities as well as commitment can be considered as two major constants while comparing several professional counsellor.
This report will focus upon the analysis of counselling session held with Mrs Marden Abdulla (Masters of Counselling) with respect to the anxiety issues that I face in public. Mrs Marden is registered under College of Counselling as a clinical counsellor, and she continues her practice in New South Wales (NSW). Further, efforts will be made in order to present an unbiased as well as realistic analysis of the session along with the personal reflection for the session. (Signed Consent Form Attached)
Privacy and Confidentiality Information
Clients or patients share their personal, as well as, private information with their counsellor because they may not feel comfortable while sharing them with others. Further, it can also be presented as, clients share their personal or private information with their counsellor because they feel safe and secure during the sessions. Therefore, it becomes the duty of counsellor to preserve as well as maintain confidentiality of the information supplied by their clients (Sudulaguntla, Baby, Philip & John, 2018).
Inglis and Cathcart (2018) suggested that, clients visit their counsellors or appoint further sessions because they have confidence in their counsellor’s approach, as well as, abilities along with the trust that, their information is safe with them. Therefore, counsellors must not allow any other person or any other party to breach the privacy or confidentiality. Likewise, counsellors are also required to take consent from their clients before discussing or disclosing their private information with other parties. Accordingly, there can be instances where counsellors are legally allowed to disclose client’s private information, and those are the instances where the client’s life may be at risk or client could be a potential threat to someone else’s life (Randall & Bewick, 2016).
Upon visiting Mrs Marden, I disclosed my insecurities as well as my inability to talk to other individuals regarding my personal matters, and these were some of the major causes of my anxiety issues. Mrs Marden ensured me that; the information shared there will remain enclosed between the two individuals present there, which were she and I. Further, she also asked me to sign the legal document of confidentiality, which was already signed by her, and this allowed me to trust her while sharing personal information.
