Aged people are the asset for any generation. Conserving them and taking the utmost care of them is ethical and essential for the growth and transition of one generation to another. Other than that, the aged people are the responsibility of the upcoming generation as the aged people are the ones who have set the platform for the new ages. This report critically examines the different issues and importance related to aged care.
Brief History and Context
The aged people and the situation they live in have attracted the interest of many writers, sociologists, social workers for a very long time. How to make their life less miserable and make them want to stay a little longer has been a concern for the decades. The urge to help these people has given way for the proper care of the old people and take them out from their helpless situation. In, the United States of America people started to grow concern about the old people. Medicinal advancement has been made since the year 1942 to increase the immunity of those people. Many social workers have joined hands and have come forwards to provide the necessary help to the people as well. In this way, the initial stage of the aged care has begun and it has been flourishing over time. This trend has been able to help many aged people and live the last bit of their life with a little peace and happiness.
Historically speaking, there are various issues associated with the old people. Many old people are abandoned and they started living their life on their own and working for themselves as well. Medically it has been proven that with age both the physical and mental strengths reduces and it has a side effect on their working capability as well. Many of them were living a life with agony, disillusionment and many other mental stress factors. These issues have evoked sympathy in the different authoritarian posts. Society became rotten to take care of these old people. They lacked the conscience of helping them and along with that; the proper humanity quotient has been reduced as well. These issues have made the situation of the aged people very vulnerable as a part of the social responsibility helping them is a part of humanity as well (Vandemeulebroucke, de Casterlé & Gastmans, 2018). These are the prior history, associated with the aged care, and show how these problems have initiated the movement for taking care of the old people.
As a part of the history, many facilities have been developed to provide the proper help to the aged people. The old age homes have been constructed where the abandoned and the homeless old people can live and live their life fully and with utter happiness. At first, the government and the other social groups of workers tried to increase the human conscience within the people with the help of religion. People still abide by religious views; in fact, they are afraid of breaking the rules as well. Using the religion as a weapon to take care of the old people was a very intelligent move made by the different groups. However, with time it can be seen that this pressure of the religion has been extinct and that when the actual problems with the aged care has begun.
The behavior of the people towards them has changed and they get back to the same position that was once in. In the late 1940s the National Health Service program began. From this time, the situation of the aged people was improving slowly. They have incorporated many agendas to help these people. More old age homes were made. The medicine and the other services are provided to them. Many extracurricular activities were introduced to them in order to reduce the stress that they are facing. Slowly many other social work organisations have come forward for them. The government has developed new policies where many types of advantages are given to the old people so that they do not have to take pressure in the last phase of their lives. These are the brief context and the history associated with the social issues and initiation of the aged care.
Political, Economic, Human Rights and Social Justice Issues
