Global Cure Mart (GCM) is an IT firm working effectively from previous 2 decades. But Currently GCM has impacted by critical issues in its daily ventures. The IT manager at GCM pressurized me to work as system admin for this firm and as a system admin
, my job is to recommend right emerging techniques and tools for this firm. Cacti, monit, Icinga, openNMS etc. are the open source tools used for system management and administrations at GCM.
OpenNMS (Open Network Management System) is an enterprise Network Management tool which is open source. The main function of this tool is to help system admins to monitor core services on remote systems. It also helps in gathering data of remote points via SNMP. Icinga is simple to install and open source network monitoring tool for all size of business. The tool consists of integrated clustered system secured with the help of SSL. Cacti is web based network monitoring tool and it is open source. The main purpose of this tool is to enable user poll services at consistent period to build graphs on resulting info by using RRDtool.
The aim of this report is to discuss on following points:
a) To focus on Differentiation of already or earlier existing server management systems or tools for services at GCM.
b) To also focuses on 3 most emerging techniques and tools for GCM server services.
Differentiation or Comparison of Existing server management systems at GCM
a) OpenNMS: OpenNMS (Open Network Management System) is an enterprise Network Management tool which is open source. The main function of this tool is to help system admins to monitor core services on remote systems. It also helps in gathering data of remote points via SNMP. Meridian and Horizon are two versions of this tool. Meridian is free of cost while Horizon version needs yearly subscription. Meridian is good to firm and business due to great strength and extended assistance. The java is developing platform for this tool and it is distributed under the General Public License (GNU). This tool offers wide variety of management ways from easy to difficult and it is designed for windows or Linux both. [1]
OpenNMS offers various features for core services. One of the feature “auto discovery” is very helpful for large enterprises. Through auto discovery feature, anyone can easily regulate what points and services would be involved or prohibited by IP range.
