Introduction
From Recent two decades, Global Cure Mart (GCM) is executing effectively. Now days GCM is facing key challenges in their everyday activities. I am working as system admin for GCM firm and my role is to provide correct emerging tools and techniqu
es for their everyday tasks. At present, GCM is utilizing open source system management tools such as cacti, monit, Icinga, openNMS etc. with respect to various server administrations. OpenNMS is highly integrated enterprise-grade network service management environment which is designed under the open source framework. OpenNMS is developed in Java and it is distributed under the General Public License (GNU). Icinga is highly document, simple to deploy and open source network monitoring tool. It was designed in the year 2009 as a fork of Nagios network monitoring tool. It is one of the powerful tool with multiple features. Cacti is designed for front end applications as it is open source, web based and graphic tool for network monitoring. It is helpful in handling multiple users at front end by its own graph presentation.
The main purpose of this document is to focus on comparison of already existing server management systems or tools for services at GCM. The document also focuses on three emerging techniques and tools for server services at GCM.
Comparison of Existing server management systems at GCM
a) OpenNMS: OpenNMS stands for Open Network Management System. OpenNMS is highly integrated enterprise-grade network service management environment which is designed under the open source framework. It was intended to oversee a huge number of tools from a single server just as oversee boundless tools utilizing a group of servers. OpenNMS is developed in Java and it is distributed under the General Public License (GNU). OpenNMS consists of a discovery machine to deploy automatically and organize network tools without any administration. OpenNMS achieve one of the Best Systems Management Tool at LinuxWorld Expo during year 2005 of August as it is recorded as one of the top 400 projects on Sourceforge. There are two versions of OpenNMS i.e. Meridian and Horizon.
Presently there are three main functioning domains of OpenNMS such as service monitoring, data collection and event management/notifications. OpenNMS is best known for its scalability.
Features
· It provides best service assurance
· It is designed on event driven architecture
· it supports tools and application monitoring
· It considers simple deployment to broaden service polling and performance data gathering models.
· It is easy to access by using web based user interface which is created on jetty.
· It has backshift graph visualization that aids to tap into the Time Series storage.
· It gathers performance metrics from standards of industry such as WMI, XMP etc. [4]
Minimum system requirement for OpenNMS
It supports operating system such as CentOS 7 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. The minimum hardware requirement is 2 CPU, 2GB ram and 20...
