Introduction
With reference to the "West Coast Transit Case Study," the goal of this project is to assess ineffective communication techniques and how they affect motivation, teamwork, and successful conflict management and resolution.
Criteria for evaluating effective team/group work
Task performance, member happiness, and team viability are the three standards for measuring a successful team. In order to complete tasks well, a successful team must first work together to achieve particular goals and objectives within the allotted time while retaining the quality of the final product. In accordance with the facts of the case, the managers had six weeks to submit an actionable marketing plan. Second, member satisfaction has a significant impact on members' commitment, cooperation, synergy, motivation, and trust. This criterion was not met in the West Coast instance because the participants lacked the teamwork skills necessary to produce the desired results in the allotted time. Several factors, like as workloads, exhaustion, family troubles, underpaid overtime, and a lack of time, contribute to the unhappiness. For example, Mahoney and Tanney thought the criteria given were unreasonable. The ability of the team to sustain itself and expand in order to ensure the company's continued success is referred to as team viability (Whiting et al., 2020). The lack of team viability in the West Coast scenario is a result of inadequate staffing, inexperienced new hires, and inadequate resources.
Five stages of group formation
The forming stage, the storming stage, the norming stage, the performance stage, and the adjourning stage are the five phases of group formation. High levels of apprehension and uncertainty about the work at hand define the shaping period. Due to the growth of distinct personalities among group members, the storming stage is characterised by competitiveness and disagreements. The norming stage represents overcoming the challenges that surfaced in the storming stage and collaborating. In order to accomplish the goals, teamwork and coordination must be established as part of the performance. The job is finished, the outcomes are assessed, and the group is disbanded at the adjourning stage. The forming and storming stages are both visible in the West Coast instance. The choice of the managers who will oversee the creation and implementation of the marketing strategy represents the shaping stage. The conflicts among the members caused by various restrictions also represent the storming stage. For example, Mahoney and Tanney think the objectives are unattainable. Additionally, the conflict between Tanney and Denson makes it difficult for them to collaborate. The squad comes together for the first time during the formation and sets goals. The storming stage, which incorporates team engagement and member conflict, comes next. Conflicts develop for a variety of reasons, including personality qualities and limitations. The group gets to know one another better during the norming stage, admits their differences and conflicts, and makes the commitment to pushing beyond challenges to accomplish the objectives. The team must concentrate on its objectives and use all of its resources to achieve the set goals during the performing stage. The squad disbands during the adjourning stage when the goals have been reached. The West Coast Transit case study shows the shaping and storming stages. Denson gathered the group during the formation phase and gave them the deadline and their goals. Conflicts also occurred...
