Assessment description:

For this unit, you will be completing one discussion board assessment. In this assessment, you will be creating an original post and a reply post to your peers based on a healthcare topic that interests you.

My research question is:   What are the psychosocial experiences of pregnant women in relation to their experience of being treated for preeclampsia in Australian hospitals?   What the Healthcare Challenge is:   Preeclampsia is a condition which affects around 3% of pregnant women in Australia (Thornton et. al., 2013). It is defined as the onset of hypertension at 20 weeks of pregnancy associated with disfunction of the uterus, placenta or other maternal organ, or proteinuria (Fox et. al., 2019). While its incidence is decreasing, with a consequent reduction in maternal mortality in Australia (Turbeville et. al., 2020, Humphrey, 2016) and most wealthy countries (Humphrey, 2016), it is a serious disease which can leave the woman at greater risk in the future of hypertension and chronic kidney disease (Turbeville & Sasser, 2020). It is therefore likely to have serious psycho-social effects on mothers both before and immediately after their child’s birth (Roberts et. al., 2017), which may be affected by their perceptions of their treatment experience (Frawley et. al., 2020).    How the Research Question was developed My method is qualitative descriptive research. I chose a PICo framework because the topic is appropriate to qualitative research, focused as it is on pregnant women’s personal experiences and perceptions. Because it deals with experiences it is a Meaning research question. It was formulated within the PICo framework as follows:   How do pregnant women (P) with preeclampsia (I) perceive/ experience their health treatment in (C) Australian hospitals?   To narrow the question slightly I added “psychosocial experiences”, to focus on those particular experiences. The research is not concerned with the clinical aspects of treating preeclampsia, rather on the realm of pregnant women’s thoughts and feelings, which are potentially empowering and positive, or alternately negative and disempowering.     How research would be carried out and evidence in support   This topic would call for semi-structured interviews, using a non-intrusive style of questioning to encourage the women to open up about their experiences. My literature review has identified studies that support utilising this type of evidence. An article by Roberts, Davis & Homer (2017) is on topic, although it also examines experiences of pregnant women purely experiencing hypertension and not just psychosocial experiences (2017). Their research was carried out using semi-structured interviews, as a descriptive study using thematic analysis. Qualitative descriptive studies are appropriate for in depth examination of life experiences and particular phenomena to elucidate patient’s perspectives (Vaismororadi et. al., 2013) and recommended for early researchers as an introduction to coordinating large amounts of data and providing an explanation of the phenomenom under study in every-day language while placing it within its context (Colorafi et. al., 2016) Research by Frawley et. al. (2020) was also on topic but they used a short survey rather than interviews, and they recommended further research using a larger cohort, which could be a feature of my research. Although small, their research produced important findings tending to indicate a large proportion of the women experienced psychological problems arising from their experiences (2020). Like Roberts et. al. (2017) they identified themes from their data, which could suggest using mixed methods ( interviews and a survey) would be an effective method, since both could be used to identify themes and serve to create a descriptive analysis References Assessment task 2: Discussion board assessment Assessment description: For this unit, you will be completing one discussion board assessment. In this assessment, you will be creating an original post and a reply post to your peers based on a healthcare topic that interests you. • Weight: 30% • Length: 2 x 500 words discussion posts • Due date: Week 8, Sunday 10th September 2023, 23:30:00 ACST • Learning Outcomes: 1, 2, 3, 4 *Please note that you will not be able to view other students’ submissions (and therefore peer review their work) until you have submitted your discussion board post. Assessment instructions Using what you have learned in modules 1, 2 & 3. create an original post explaining a research question you have developed on a healthcare challenge in your own area. The original post should explain: (1) what the healthcare challenge is and (2) include a breakdown of the PICO or PICo that you have used to create your research question. Instructions for original post [post 1] (500 words): [1] Clearly and succinctly summarize the research topic in your own healthcare area that you want to address and justify why research is useful for addressing the clinical problem (100-150 words) [2] Develops an appropriate research question using the PICO or PICo framework and explains which model was selected and why (100-150 words) [3] Discuss the most suitable forms of evidence (e.g., evidence from qualitative study, evidence from randomized control trials, or evidence from systematic reviews) to answer the research question you proposed and justify why with references support (200- 300 words) Instructions for responding to one peer's post [post 2]: [1] Choose one peer's post and briefly clarify why you choose this health issue to respond to. ( around 100 words) [2] Provides feedback/comments on the peer's post such as the peer's topic and methods used for developing the research question, with references support. (150-200 words) [3] Provides suggestions and recommendations. (150-200 words) Please note: For the both two posts, please [1] Submit directly to the discussion board (no attachments please) [2] References (APA 7th reference) should be within last 10 years should be included, from 2013 and onward. [3] Your reference list is not included in the word count [4] 1st person is acceptable in the discussion board assessment [5] Please reference all your claims – including in the evaluation section, if necessary. If you are including information from a journal article/textbook etc. then you must reference it. [6] You will only be able to review and respond to your peer’s posts once you have submitted your own. Marking Rubric Please access the marking rubric to ensure that you are maximising your marks in your submission.

    The pr
eeclampsia patients' psychosocial experiences in Australian hospitals are the center of the study question I want to examine. In Australia, a sizeable percentage of pregnant women about 3% are affected with preeclampsia. It is defined by the appearance of hypertension after 20 weeks of pregnancy, which is frequently accompanied by difficulties including proteinuria, malfunction of the mother's organs, or other issues. Preeclampsia remains a dangerous illness with possible long-term effects for mothers, including an increased risk of hypertension and chronic renal disease (Andersson, Rubertsson & Hansson, 2021). Despite improvements in healthcare, the maternal death rate linked with preeclampsia has decreased. Additionally, preeclampsia can significantly affect a woman's psychological well-being, impression of care, and overall delivery experience.

I have developed a research question utilizing the PICo framework to examine this complicated problem: "How do pregnant women (P) with preeclampsia (I) perceive/experience their healthcare treatment in (C) Australian hospitals?" For qualitative research, the PICo framework works...
