Assessment C: Nursing Care Plan and Oral Presentation Choose one of the following scenarios/tasks. Based on this scenario there are 2 components to this assessment on which you will be marked: - A verbal 5-10 minute presentation related to the topic of your care plan - A Written care plan which you will be required to hand in on the day of your presentation. Scenarios – Marks: 30% of total marks for the unit Comprising of: 5% for verbal presentation 25% for written care plan SCENARIO 1 John is a 60-year-old male admitted into a rehabilitation unit post left hip replacement. John is complaining of pain and is reluctant to move out of bed, despite being encouraged by doctors and nurses. He also has arthritis on right hip and knee, which is impairing his ability to mobilise. He requires assistance with bathing. Task: Written Identify two actual nursing diagnoses and one potential nursing diagnosis relevant to John’s condition. Outline three nursing interventions for each nursing diagnosis identified. Document your relevant interventions in correctly formatted nursing progress notes. Verbal presentation: Discuss how analgesia is important in managing John’s compliance. Identify which Allied health team members should be involved in John’s care and their specific role in helping John to regain independence. SCENARIO 2 Mary is 30-year-old woman, returned from a recent trip to Asia, admitted to a medical ward with acute gastro enteritis. She has a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius, headache, and general malaise. She has experienced vomiting and diarrhoea several times today and cannot tolerate food. Task: Written Identify two actual nursing diagnoses and one potential nursing diagnosis relevant to Mary’s condition. Outline three nursing interventions for each nursing diagnosis identified. Document your relevant interventions incorrectly formatted nursing progress notes. Verbal presentation: What areas of health education would you include in this client’s care? Discuss the chain of infection and how it is relevant in this scenario Identify three (3) other potential causes of Nausea and Vomiting in a woman of this age.
